ZEN76 Dead in a week - unusual?

Honestly, I found the firmware page extremely confusing. I did enter a support request this morning, haven't heard anything yet. It never occurred to me that there were hardware versions of the ZEN76. I thought that referred to the firmware that was shipped. I wish they made this more clear on the firmware site. Plus, it DID flash fine and worked for several days. :frowning: Guess I'm hosed here. And I have two more Zooz devices on the way... Oy.

For following instructions...? :unamused:
Maybe take some screenshots, just in case.

Its definitely confusing. TP-Link and other hardware manufacturers are bad about it as well. Same product model number, but different hardware versions (usually different CPU or chipset) that they number. I wish they would use letters for hardware versions and numbers for firmware/software versions. Its really bad when the first versions don't have their hardware version printed on them (since its the only version) so does that mean its 1.0?

I have maybe 30 of the zen2x series and a at least six of the zen7x series installed.

I did have one of the zen76 die a couple days after installing it.

That is the only issue I have ever had with any of them.

I think that's what happened. Regardless of the firmware snafu, it died. I answered Zooz supports questions, sent pictures etc. Still waiting to hear back from them. I was very honest and sent the contents of this thread so they'd have all the background information. This includes how confusing their firmware page is. We'll see what they do with this dead switch.

I am in Canada so I had purchased the zen76 through their authorized distributor Home Tech Solutions and zooz finally approved them to send me a replacement once I sent in the dead one.

Initially Zooz had claimed it was user error since I had the switch connected to two electronic ballasts powering two led T8s each. They claimed the switch was not rated for that use case due to inrush current. My defence that I previously had a zen26 in this socket for a year and a half was not accepted. Using a small load resistor I captured oscilloscope pics that debunked their theory and reluctantly agreed.

I don’t like Home Tech Solutions. I don’t know what formula they use to convert USD to CAD but their markup is high. But for buying 1 or 2 switches here or there, it’s easier that finding alternative mailing options. The smartest home will not ship to Canada.

So hats off to Zooz Support and @agnes.zooz in particular. I have worked with them and they are standing behind their product. Sending me a warranty replacement.

We've already updated the instructions, thank you for pointing this out! The 2.0 hardware for the ZEN76 model was only recently released that's why we didn't mention it before but it's been fixed already.
