ZEN15 & Better Laundry Monitor

ZEN15

I am trying to use this for washing machine monitoring using the power value but it is not following the settings. Any ideas?

Based on those settings and the doc, my plug should report power changes of 15 watts or more or every 10 min but it is reporting more than that, which is causing the Better Laundry Monitor app to stop and start the cycle. One at 10:40:48 and then again at 10:40:49

I only see one extra report at the ~4 watts.

If it is still cycling at 4 watts, could you change the bottom threshold to 4 watts in the app?

That was just the one I captured in that section of log. Does anyone else see that reporting issue with the ZEN15? I have two of them and they both do it.

I can continue to tweak the value to try and nail down the right idle wattage but if it reported correctly then it would not be an issue.

Mine are the older model so different firmware. I know Chris @hydro311 has some new ones, seeing any double reporting?

I still think just fixing the app settings would be an easy solution. Honestly that is the problem. Unless the idle watts is somehow higher than the lowest running watts.

No double reporting on either mine - all working as expected.

FWIW, I only have both report a designated Power delta -- I don't have ANY other reporting options enabled (entity or time-based).

Good point, I wonder if thats the cause.

@JamesTX10 it might possibly be just setting a 10 minute timer internally and reporting every 10 minutes regardless of any other reports (not resetting the timer for each report). Could be intentional or a firmware bug. You could turn off the 10 minutes interval setting and see if that fixes the double reports.

I will try that.

If I have the W reporting at 15 W then I see that happening as expected BUT the value can be in the 4 W range for a still running cycle and lower than 4 W for cycle finished which is not enough of a change to trigger another report then.

End of the cycle but the last report is over 4 W so the app does not show the cycle has ended and no other reports are expected based on the 15 W setting:

I guess I'd just bump that "Stop cycle when power below.." value up to whatever the Zen usually trails off with. If that's consistently 4.xx, the use 6 or so.

If you want to keep that "Done" power value as close to zero as possible, then you could set up a separate rule that refreshes the Zen ~15-30" after dropping below a certain power (10 or so?) - that refresh should return a very low power value if the appliance is indeed done.

I changed it to

We only had 2 small loads left but it worked fine for those. Might have to adjust the 1 min threshold for a larger load.

THANKS to both of you for your help

I have mine set to notify me after it has been below threshold for 5 minutes. I could probably lower that but it was a value I knew would avoid false alerts while still being low enough I wouldn't care about the difference. Been using this for quite a while. My thresholds are 8W and 4W.
