ZEN 34 switch not working

I have two ZEN 34 remote switches that have been working for a while. Over the last 24 hours they will not turn on or off the dimmers assigned to them. If I push either button 1 (on) or button 2 (off) the log has the following message: com.hubitat.app.exception.LimitExceededException: Device 454 generates excessive hub load on line 493 (method parse). I have no idea what this means other than it's a sign of why the switch is not working. Any advice will be welcome.

Other than replacing the batteries I have had no issues with my Zen 34s. I had one I sent to Zooz for warranty repair and they said it was the Duracell batteries I had put in it. It had stopped working and although the battery indicator was not that low I was pretty sure I had never changed the battery in it. It was still on the original set of batteries. I put brand new batteries and it still did not work. In fact I put two different sets of brand new batteries, both sets were from a pack of Duracells. So I assumed it went bad.

When they sent it back they had put their batteries in it and said they were not sure why the Duracell's did not work , but they were looking into it. It has worked ever since.

Don't recall it throwing any errors though.

That particular brand of batteries have a nasty tasting coating on them to keep kids from swallowing them.
That coating interferes with some devices ability to use the batteries.

Unfortunately I have pretty fresh LiCB brand CR2032s installed in both switches so I can't blame Duracell. I was hoping the error message might trigger some recognition in the Hubitat community. I'll reach out to Zooz as well.

I posted a thread about it some time back, and others theorized that might be the problem. Never heard from Zooz one way or another.

While the above is certainly something to look at, this error sounds like it is most likely to cause this problem and perhaps others. What is device 454? These are numbers you'll see next to log entries like "dev:454," among other ways to find it (the URL for the device detail page being another easy one).

Hi Bert,

Device 454 is one of the ZEN34 remote switches. These are lines from the log for that device:

dev:4542023-09-10 05:27:32.027 AMerrorcom.hubitat.app.exception.LimitExceededException: Device 454 generates excessive hub load on line 493 (method parse)

dev:4542023-09-10 05:27:31.970 AMdebugButton 2 pushed

dev:4542023-09-10 12:58:22.969 AMerrorcom.hubitat.app.exception.LimitExceededException: Device 454 generates excessive hub load on line 461 (method parse)

dev:4542023-09-10 12:58:22.958 AMdebugBattery is 100%

dev:4542023-09-10 12:58:22.744 AMdebugDevice Woke Up...

I talked to the Zooz folks and that's their read. This is probably a Hubitat problem. The question is: what should I do to try to fix this?

How about the ever popular graceful shutdown and power cycle (30 seconds)?

Dear Velvetfoot,

I did the semi-popular Hub Reboot instead and it did the trick. LOL.
