This isn't something I freak out about, but was somewhat surprised the first time I did Google Takeout to see what data Google was keeping about me, I learned that every trigger of the Nest presence sensor was logged and kept for 18 months. Apparently, I got up in the middle of the night to pee one night a year prior to that. I don't remember it, but Google does.
It seems that Google Takeout no longer provides Nest Protect logs. Maybe that has something to do with their discontinuing that product.
There is some mention above of cooking and smoke detectors. I found this bit from a local ordinance interesting.
R314.3.1 Installation near cooking appliances. Smoke alarms shall not be installed in the following locations
unless this would prevent placement of a smoke alarm in a location required by Section R314.3.
- Ionization smoke alarms shall not be installed less than 20 feet (6096 mm) horizontally from a
permanently installed cooking appliance.
- Ionization smoke alarms with an alarm-silencing switch shall not be installed less than 10 feet (3048
mm) horizontally from a permanently installed cooking appliance.
- Photoelectric smoke alarms shall not be installed less than 6 feet (1828 mm) horizontally from a
permanently installed cooking appliance.
I don't think I've seen a detector installed 20+ feet away from a cooking appliance. 20 feet could definitely cut down on the false alarms.
