Z-Wave Route

Hi,

I need to place two water sensors on the rooftop water tank. The total distance between the Hub and the sensor was 40 feet approx. As many walls and beams are along the way, the water sensor is not getting signals properly.

So I added a Z-Wave repeater on the 1st floor, so the distance between the water sensor and the hub was reduced. So now the sensor is able to work till 30 feet.

Now I need to increase the range, and so I can place the sensor inside the tank which is at 40 feet. As I read, Z-Wave range can be increased when we place other Z-Wave devices near by. I have added two more Z-Wave PIR sensor along the way

Hub -> Repeater -> PIR Sensor -> PIR Sensor -> Water Sensor

But in the route, I see the route to the water sensor only from the repeater and not from the PIR sensors.

All the product brands are Neo CoolCam. Any idea how to change their route?

All the routes of the devices I have mentioned

A Z-Wave device needs to be mains powered in order to function as a repeater; battery operated sensors won't repeat for other devices in the mesh.

You'd need to add another mains powered device in the path in order to increase the range.

Thanks for the info. As of now, those two PIR are battery-operated. But actual PIR gonna be

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002309650200.html as there will be lots of motion, I will be powering this PIR with 5V USB. Does this act as a repeater?

Possibly. Do you have a link to the product manual?

Couldn't you just plug in a (quality) z-wave plug and call it a day?

I dont have the manual with me. I hope someone having a similar product can clarify it.

I am using Z-Wave EU now. And I am from India. So if I get the EU plug, I must add two converter front and back to use it properly.

My motto is: "nothing is easy".

I am planning to get this as well, and this can be powered by the battery and 5V USB as well.

What should I look to know whether this device can act as repeater?

I tried finding this on z-wavealliance.org, but I cannot ......

My suggestion is to play it safe and get plugs, like @velvetfoot suggests.

I have a no-use case for plugs, but I can get one as a repeater. I do have a question here.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32947549488.html

  1. can be used as a plug
  2. can be used as an extender

  1. can be used only as a repeater

Repeater is 20 USD approx expensive than the plug. Does the repeater provide more functionality than the plug, or are both the same?

I think I can add this in the places where I planned to add ZigBee Switch Module

I believe they can act as repeater.

Not sure if this is the same siren device but the picture looks similar. Its role is 'Listening Sleeping Slave', as such it wouldn't repeat for the mesh:
