This is very random, but we have a projector that has a life of it's own - it randomly opens and closes. But, i recently discovered that it reacts to the change in a z-wave dimmer on lights where the dimmer switch is in the same room, and the light are pretty close to the projector and screen - but it only reacts when I adjust the dimmer level from my phone and not from the actual physical dimmer
Said another way, when I change the light level from the HE app (seems to happen more consistently from the dashboard versus the device page), the screen goes down or up.
So, my theory is there is interference between the z-wave frequency and the projector/screen.
I'm wondering if there's a way to change the z-wave frequency to test the theory. And if it is possible, will is cause any issues with my HE setup?
Z-Wave has a few different channels it can use at slightly different frequencies, depending on connection speed and mesh vs. LR topology, but anything beyond that last one is really not easily controlled. (If the dimmer supports LR, you could try joining it that way instead, but LR support is still pretty uncommon outside new devices from a few vendors.) Otherwise, the only thing you can change on 700- or 800-series hubs is the region, which also affects frequency but won't help you with devices as those are generally scoped to a specific region.
If you can find out what your projector:screen uses and whether it's around 908-916 MHz, assuming you're in the US (and that we're talking something remotely controllable?), that would be one way to see if Z-Wave is a likely cause of "interference." Have to say I haven't seen anything like this before!
Where are you located? In the UK/EU Z Wave uses a frequency of 868MHz. That same frequency is used by all wireless alarms that are not Z Wave (Pyronix, Honeywell, Risco, Texecom, Eaton, etc). My Honeywell heating system also uses 868MHz for the TRVs. A low battery on one of those TRVs once played havoc with the alarm as it was interpreted as a jamming attack.
Is the problem the projector or the screen? Both? Are either of these ZWave devices? WiFi devices? IR controlled devices? some other proprietary RF control? ...
...we have a projector... it (what is it? screen projector) randomly opens and closes.... the screen goes down or up ... the projector/screen...
You could try an extension cord experiment and plug the screen/projector/both into an outlet some distance away from this room and on a different branch circuit. This might help sort out if it is conducted interference over the power lines or not. If it is then you can purchase a power line EMI filter for that device(s).
