I want to replace an older Gen 1 GE/Jasco dimmer with a Plus device. The older dimmer is close to my hub and has 7 other devices routed through it. What happens to the routing table when I exclude the older dimmer? I assume it will be automatically reconfigured. Is this correct? I also assume it would be a good idea to repair the Z-wave mesh after replacement. Right now my HE hub is stable with 54 of my 58 devices having an RTT avg of 0-100ms.
Go ahead and exclude it. Install the new one. Likely everything will find routes on their own but no harm in doing a z-wave repair after install.
That's correct. Best method is to exclude it before you remove power, to give the network a heads up. If you have to "force remove" it later, it might leave a ghost device which you'd have to remove manually from the Z-wave details page.
Because some of my switches are in Rules , what I have done is Add the new z-wave device. Then take the new network id , rename it and put the new id on the old device. Then change driver (This was the trick for not having to redo all my rules when I went from c4 to c7) Then remove the added device forcibly (since it did not have a valid network id)
