I have two Z-Wave Locks that I’ve been unable to get past the initialization stage with. I’ve tried all the things I could find here on the community site including moving the hub within a foot of the lock, resetting the locks, excluding, pushing the “discovery” button in the Z-Wave utilities, removing ghost nodes, rebooting the hub before pairing, etc. After at least a dozen attempts for each lock, I came here for help.
Both locks are Z-Wave Plus. My old Kwikset with plain Z-Wave (not Plus) finally paired after lots of attempts. But I can’t get either of the Plus ones to finish pairing.
If you look at the Z-Wave device in Settings do you see it as PENDING?
I have had ths where it appears to join but remains in this state.
I think there is a DISCOVER button there sometime to finish the join.
I had one that did what you descrive constantly and the fix was to power off the hub, remove the USB for 20 minutes and let the Z-Wave radio reset. My lock then disssapeared and joined properly.
I think you need to be close to the device as well to eliminate any repeaters in the path.
I have gone in circles with FLiRS lock devices with these issues.
I would delete the device and factory reset it, backup the hub, shutdown the hub and remove power for 20 minutes.
Restart the hub and try pairing again making sure there are no Z-Wave repeaters lurking and the hub is in close proximity.
After lots and lots of attempts, including following the things you outlined here, I ended up giving up and resorting to replacing the Z-Wave Plus chip with a Z-Wave (non Plus) one, which worked. And I had to return the Yale. Is this normal or could there be something wrong with my C-8 hub? I'm currently running pretty old Kwikset locks and would love to be able to upgrade them with newer ones someday.
You're initial mispairing created a ghost and it seems the lock wouldn't pair after that. If you remove the ghost, you should be able to re pair the device. Since it's a lock, pair within 2 feet of the hub as a lot of locks have a whisper mode encryption handshake for initial pairing. (HE requires all locks to use encryption)
Both locks created ghost nodes many times, but thankfully I was able to remove all of them through the Z-Wave settings page. Even after removing all ghost nodes, excluding, factory resetting locks, shutting down and unplugging the hub for 20 minutes, turning off nearby repeaters, and moving the hub within six inches I was still never able to get the Z-Wave Plus ones past initialization.
The Z-Wave setting page would show the node, but I could never get it to discover. And the locks showed as connected directly to the hub… no jumps to other devices.
