X10 - will it ever return?

There's an old post here that says you need the old version of the hub for X10 switches :person_shrugging:

I've never owned anything X10, but I know that there are others that have posted that you could add X10 to the 2245-222 hub, and I do see it as an option in the Home Assistant integration. That's not to say that it works on my hub, and I cannot test it. There still are 2242-222 hubs available on ebay. The manual for the 2242-222 hub lists X10, but the manual for the 2245-222 hub does not. So I can only quote what other users are saying. There's probably someone still at the new Insteon corporation that can better explain what's possible.

Home Assistant Insteon integration (Add X10 device). Means nothing to me, having never used X10.

I have read users of the 2242-222 hub say that the Hubitat integration does work with their Insteon devices. There's really no reason it shouldn't. The basic driver is sending http to the hub to control devices. The websocket driver that runs on node.js is simply listening to responses so if an Insteon switch or plug, etc. is manually controlled, the Hubitat Elevation hub will know its status. Or if a contact or leak sensor triggers, that status is reflected on the HE hub.

If X10 doesn't have status (I think someone mentioned that at one time), then you don't even need the node.js application. There's a driver that can send http to the hub without it. In fact, if I shut down my node.js applicaiton for Insteon, I can still control the lights from Hubitat, but I just don't get the status and my one Insteon leak sensor I'm still using will not report anything to the HE hub.

Here's how the basic URL commands work with the Insteon hub. You may already be familiar. If the same type of device network ID is used with X10 devices, then I don't see why you wouldn't be able to control them. However, if there isn't a DNI, then I have no idea how you would control them from an Insteon hub without something like ISY 994i (have one of those I bought of ebay and never used if you're interested again ).

Some other informaton you might find useful. Just trying to be as helpful as possible.

And yes, apparently it's possible to convert 2242-222 and 2245-222 hubs so you can connect it to and ISY994i serial connection or via USB directly to Home Assistant. I bought the parts to do this, since I have an old Insteon hub that seems to join devices, but its Etherenet port is dead. I was going to do this conversion and use ISY with Home Assistant at one time, but never did.

If any of you folks are still using X10 might be interested in some Lightolier Compose PLC dimmers and/or switches, I have several NIB laying around. Originally around $70 each I would be happy to sell them for $10 each and I will pay shipping on 2 or more.
