Worth replacing oldest devices?

I have one device in my mesh that isn't Z-Wave Plus, largely because when I bought it, Plus dry contact relays were hard to come by. Zooz has several now, but the Linear FS20Z-1 was the only thing I could find at the time.

It's on the periphery of my network, isn't trying to repeat, and seems to be functional (doesn't get toggled very often). I'm wondering whether there's any benefit to upgrading it to something Plus, or just see how long it survives.

(Similarly, is there any actual value to swapping out functional 500-series devices for 700-series?)

I'm a bit in the camp of why fix it if it is not broken.

However, I did pull one of my old Zwave plugs as it was causing issues with other devices not refreshing correctly on the dashboards and it required a polling app to be used to get any sort of idea what state it was in.

If you aren't having issues and you don't need features that a new device brings, you're probably okay leaving as-is.

About half my devices are 300-series. One of them is 100-series. They’re all working well - so I’m leaving them alone until there’s a performance issue.

I would agree with @aaiyar, if it is not causing an issue there is not much need to replace. When I got a C7 hub a while back (in addition to my C5s) I just started putting all my Z-Wave Plus devices on that going forward. Now my C5 only has "old" Z-Wave. But it all seems to be continuing to work just fine and the Hub Mesh USUALLY allows it all to coordinate well.

If it's not broken don't fix it! If you have cash burning a hole in your pocket automate something else.

I think that you're looking for an enabler. Like when I ask my wife, "Do you think that I can put just a little more chocolate sauce on my ice cream?"

But sadly, I'm in the "If it ain't broke..." camp as well. I have some very old Z-Wave contact sensors and the damn things just keep working and last forever on their batteries. Since they aren't bothering me, I don't bother them.

i'm in the same boat, i have a z-wave non-plus sensor at the end of my network. it isn't a repeater, and everything works, so i'm not changing it

Sounds like the mesh has reached a consensus on a preferred route.

Some of my favorite (best) devices are old ones. The first generation SmartThings motion sensors are fabulous. They are the ones with the option to power via a USB port. The early generation SmartThings door/window sensors (that use the AAAA batteries) are wonderful. I generally don't replace unless I think the device is causing a problem.
