I got a new Wink Siren, which is reported as Dome siren and have been struggling to include it to zwave network. I succeeded only when I realized that the signal range for it is 1 foot, literally. When I move it to 2 feet HE does not see it. No command can be issued, zwave repair reports communication failure. When I bring it back to 1 ft distance it starts working again. All other zwave devices I have are working via normal distances, like two rooms away. Should I stop wasting time on it and find a new one ? The initial battery is reported at 70% but is growing so I assume the algorithm to detect battery level is not very reliable.
Aldo just only for this device it is missing from zwave topology even when it sits on top of the hub. It is device 28
I think the operative word here is "wink." I'd pop it back in a box and return it. I have had excellent luck with the Aeotec siren 6, which has a battery backup, a strobe, and makes a pretty good zwave repeater as well.
FWIW, it’s unlikely wink makes their own devices. It’s probably a rebranded Dome siren, so I wouldn’t send it back just because of the name on the box.
OTOH, wink deserves to get ■■■■ on at every opportunity, so .
Your first recommendation was more even-handed than mine. Thank you.
I'm no expert but it looks like you may need to work an building a better mesh. Looks like you have 3 devices that don't talk to neighbors. (maybe ghosts?)
I know it's smaller but here is my map
I am not putting much faith into this chart, looks buggy to me. For example 1B sensor is reporting temperature once per hour, which is reflected in the logs, and still it shows as a ghost on the map. Some other connections make no sense either.
Why is everyone so against Wink ? They even do not make this siren.
Actually I would return any sensor that worked so poorly (once I confirmed ghosts were not the issue) but many of us have history with Wink.
How much time do you have?
Phenomenally poor product support, whether it is their hub, or Wink-branded peripherals like the siren you have.
For a first hand example, contact Wink Support for help with the issue that you've encountered (range of 1 ft).
My stink, uh meant wink siren is operating okay. It's within 10ft of my C7 and 10 ft of the Aeotec Siren 6, oh hell it's surrounded by six make it 7, z-wave + repeaters, in a 25 x 25 space, and seems to respond okay. I only paid like 20 bucks for it, didn't expect much
OK, I see your point now. I did contact Wink and they confirmed the device is faulty. But... they would not provide any warranty and suggested me to return the item to the seller !
The seller probably knows better about I about Wink as he promptly refunded it but does not want it back !
LOL. Well, now you know. Their cloud service was unreliable and sometimes down for days, firmware updates were a mess, and then they wanted people to PAY for it! How about you make it reliable and firmware updates solid and THEN ask me to pay for it.
Now I am not suggesting every HE firmware update goes smoothly, but (1) they are optional and pulled rather than pushed, and (2) though they are sometimes buggier than I would like, the bugs get addressed pretty quickly.
