Will Hubitat Alexa skill support locks?

The only thing holding me back from moving completely over to Hubitat is lock support in Alexa. Hubby has a Goodnight routine that locks all the doors. Will the Hubitat Alexa skill supports locks? Is there a workaround I can implement now?

Also will the Hubitat Alexa skill support reporting on and adjusting a thermostat?

A simple way to implement a trigger with Alexa/Hubitat currently is to use a virtual switch device. After adding the virtual switch, you should be able to have a Rule Machine rule trigger whenever the switch goes from off to on. Then, simply issue the lock commands as part of the RM action. Also, be sure to have an action to turn off the virtual switch so it will be ready for the next time Alexa’s Goodnight routine is called.

Thank you SO much! Will try this tonight…

This is how I do my good night routines as well. Alexa turns on virtual Switch, Switch kicks off goodnight actions, and then turns the switch back off. You could use a virtual button as well, but I prefer the switch.

For thermostats, what kind of thermostat do you have? I have an ecobee and had a nest a while back. For me if the echo has native support, I prefer that. Even when I was using Smartthings, my thermostat and even my hue controls through the echo were via their native apps vs Smartthings.

One thing missing from HE, that I dont see them fixing, is that with ST you could say 'Alexa, lock the back door", and it would lock. You could not unlock it, but you could lock it. A workaround is to create a virtual switch for the lock. It works, just means you have to say a few extra words “Alexa turn off the “back door””. I just found it much more natural to say lock the back door.

If you don't like the "turn on" verbal command, you can now use an Alexa routine to change the verbal trigger that then turns the virtual switch on or off. So you can now use "Echo, secure the castle" or "Echo, open the pod bay doors" and it will work. :sunglasses:

Note that you still can't actually unlock a lock directly from Alexa, you still have to use the virtual switch method. But you can change the trigger phrase this way.

I have a Centralite Pearl thermostat, only works via the keypad or through a hub, no internet involved. Right now we can tell Alexa to turn the temperature up or down or set the temperature. Hopefully once Hubitat has an Alexa skill, it will support things like setting color temperature/color for bulbs, thermostats and locks.

Great Idea, I keep forgetting about that option.

A native driver for this thermostat will be in the next build.
