Wifi adapter - is it working?

Need some help.

First, I know Wifi is not optimal for the hub, but I want to give it a try as my router is in a far corner of the house with no other real option for wiring.

That said, I bought the recommended TP-Link long range adapter and the required cable. I downloaded and installed the wifi drivers, entered my wifi network ID and password, connected the cable and wifi adapter, pulled the hardwire and rebooted. I lost all connection to the hub. The app couldn't find it, didn't seem to be on my network. Plugged the wire back in and rebooted, everything good again. I re-entered the wifi credentials just in case and tried again. Same result. Currently running with both hardwire and wifi adapter connected.

Is there a wifi status page somewhere or any other way to see what's going on with the adapter? Entering the wifi credentials and saving doesn't tell you whether they were correct or incorrect, just that they were saved.

Of course, I could be missing something obvious.

Some background... I'm new to Hubitat but not new to home automation. I go all the way back to the X-10 days, blech. Currently almost migrated from SmartThings, since Samsung is more or less bailing. Still researching/working on Ring (cameras specifically), Roomba, and the apparently infamous Schlage BE469 door lock. I have about 50-ish smart devices so not a huge install. I am also migrating from Sharptools to Rule Machine for my automations. I have written code but its been a long, long time (c++ anyone?) and can read most of the stuff out there but have no formal training in Groovy or anything like it.

When on Wifi, do you know what IP address has been provided to the hub by your DHCP server? If not, try this link to see if it connects to the hub: http://hubitat.local

That's the thing, I've never been on wifi that I know of. It seems the only way to even try to use Wifi is power down, unplug the ethernet cable and power back up. If it doesn't work, I have to go through another power cycle to get back on ethernet and have no data or logs to troubleshoot with that I can find. Its like putting a puzzle together in the dark.

Ouch. I’ve never used Wifi on the hub myself, so hopefully, others that have can provide recommendations!

Tagging @gopher.ny

I used it originally when the option first became available. I bought the recommended dongle and it worked ok for me BUT it was limited to 2.4g and I then bought another, dual band. That one never worked and although @gopher.ny created a driver for it, we never got enough time to debug it.

TL:DR
It's only 2.4g support. Be certain that's the SSID and PW you're entering. Forget about 5gig band.

Can you PM me your hub id? I can double check the engineering logs to confirm whether it's picking up the adapter or not.

Note to self: add that ability to Settings - Network...
