What does the c-8 bring to the table, that the previous generation does not
Everything works now. Being cheap and lazy. Always problems with early adoption.
That being said, mine is in the mail.
This was exactly my thinking, with exactly the same outcome!
Because the C7 runs perfectly fine. I have two of them so, two good reasons not to jump onto the C8 wagon.
BTW: Canadian member, Aartech has them on sale ending today Mar 2nd. I got my order in just in time
Too many higher priority projects in the queue. My C7 already has a hack-job antenna mod and the system is stable. Not ready to play with 800 series Z-wave or this Matter thing.
Frankly, the decision is as much "when" as "will I". I don't need to be an early adopter on this.
Great question! Here is a brief summary for you:

Because the C-7 I bought as a backup to my operating C-5 is still in it's unopened box. As it stands, my C-5 serves as a Zigbee hub and a server for @jpage4500's dashboard and nothing else. I use node-red for processing and Z-Wave JS. In my view, Thread and Matter don't and likely never will, at least not in any way that is an improvement.
Funny story. Told my wife that I was preparing to upgrade our home to the new C-8 hub and could tell that she wasn't happy that I'll be spending yet another weekend messing with our system. Later that night she asked me when was I planning on making the switch. I said, it's done! You should have seen the disbelief on her face.
Everything has been running fine for me as well. My C-8 is currently out for delivery. @bobbyD , what do I need to do to add it to the beta with my other hubs?
Send me the hub id so we can enroll it.
Did the latest z-wave when I brought a c-7 to replace my c-5. (all my fibaro had to be joined via secure, so not a plus). Hence why I run c5 (zigbee) & c7 (zwave).
Zigbee 3.0 a plus, how exactly?
Wifi? I have ethernet.
External Antennas? I live the UK and my house is small.
USB-C power? ooo How trendy! both my C5 and C7 run of a usb hub.
I may upgrade at a future date, depending on the progress of thread or wait till the C8, better CPU & more memory.
I did the C7 antenna mod and everything works great. Really no reason to upgrade for me right now.
This is the only acceptable excuse. And it just barely squeaks in, frankly.
All the other "everything's working" and "avoid early adoption" and "my wife will kill me if I buy another hub" excuses are not acceptable.
I did not come to this forum to see rational behavior by mature adults. That's just not why were here! Am I right?!?!

if i buy it, it'll arrive when i'm out of town and i won't be able to play with it immediately. i'd rather wait until i get back into town to buy it so i can play with it immediately
OK, consider yourself grandfathered (or childed?) in. You have a temporary bye, and then when you're back you have to complete your buy. (See what I did there?!) ![]()
I’ve really been debating buying one, I don’t really have a need that I’ve justified yet. I already have 3 hubs - one c7 that does most things, one old c5 that does cloud integrations (the first c7 replaced the c5), and another c7 I had to put in a detached garage to get a zwave door lock and zooz zen16 to reliably work.
The c8 antennas may be enough to reach the garage equipment, so I could decommission and move back to two hubs, but then I would have two excess hubs with with no purpose sitting around.

As far as I know, Aartech has had the C7 on sale that ends "today"... for the past few months. Seems like it is their common practice that all of their sales end "today".
I have a C4 and a C7 at home, and a C7 at our vacation home. It's all running well right now, though the C4 is definitely slower to render screens. (Probably a combo of being older, and it having many, many more devices on it than the C7.)
I haven't ordered a C8 yet, but it'll probably happen eventually. Would be good to replace the C4. It doesn't have the easy migration, which is my only hesitation. It would be a lot of devices to move, but also a lot of reconfiguration of HomeKit and Alexa. I will probably start doing it little by little at some point.
For this alone would be a good reason to upgrade. That way, you can do the heavy lifting on your schedule and plan ahead when you have time to reset your networks, instead of waiting for the C-4 to die and be faced with a manual migration when you may not have the time to do it.
That's what eBay and Craig's List are for.
I'd keep one C-7 as backup HW in the event of a catastrophic failure. Anything else goes in the for-sale pile... ![]()
