Why so many updates? Seems like we get release notes for major updates but not for the bugs fixed.
I see a new version today even though I just updated yesterday. What’s new in 2.1.2.117 vs 2.1.2.115 anyway? I had some presence issues today, any details on if this is addressed that?
As you discovered, hotfix release notes are posted in the thread made for the initial release of that firmware version. Might as well put the answer here and keep the thread so anyone who has the same question can find it, too.
As you've probably also seen, in general, release notes are posted in the Announcements category of the forum. I personally set this category to "Watched" so I get notifications on anything posted there, which is normally hub updates (also a couple other things like Hubitat Live announcements and general platform changes I like to stay aware of anyway).
To set a category like this to "Watched," click the button/icon in the far right of the toolbar-ish row of icons above the thread list, which by default will probably be an open circle icon for "Normal." There are a few different options that explain what they do, but "Watched" will give you notifications for both first posts and additional posts to that thread, which I like to do since it gives me notifications for posts about hotfixes, too.
This is common after the release of a new hub firmware version (e.g., 2.1.2.xxx as an upgrade from 2.1.1.xxx). Obviously they don't plan to do this, but there always seem to be things the general public finds that didn't get caught in beta testing, and they have been good at patching those problems as soon as possible. With Rule 4.0 being introduced in this release (the target for most of these hotfixes), I expected at least a couple of these soon after the release.
If you don't want to deal with having to possibly update a few times to new hotfixes within the first few days of a new firmware release, I'd suggest waiting a couple days after the release and update if/when things settle down, unless there's a reason you want it as soon as possible (I guess someone has to or they'll never find these things ).
I guess I am a gambler, I install the updates within minutes of release. I don't care if there are bugs, I want the latest and greatest. So far it hasn't "bit me in the behind".
There is nothing to say you have to do it that fast however. I think you could theoretically skip every update if you want things to remain as-is. I personally wouldn't recommend that either as there have been some great new features added in every release.
From what I have seen, the first few days there are a couple bug fixes released, and it all settles down within about a week at most. When you come from a static platform like Wink, where there were virtually zero updates (or maybe a minor app update every so often), the pace of Hubitat releases can be shocking at first.
I’m coming from Stringify actually so while there was no local firmware to update there were also no developments done in the past year (hmmm...pretty much as soon as HE was born which is a strange coincidence).
I do appreciate the rapid development and even more so the intelligence and participation within the community.
