Why does matter pairing suck so bad?

Why does matter pairing suck so bad with Hubitat? Can't get 3 out of 4 devices in a new box of Kasa devices to pair

They pair first time every time with Smartthings.

Some times it can't find the device. Sometimes it goes through the first phasev then crashes out in the second phase.

I've even tried generating new matter creds through Smartthings and that fails too.

Separate your 2.4 and 5gz wifi SSID'd and pair it while connected to the 2.4

Can you PM me the hub id? There may be something in the engineering logs.

Little more luck tonight. I was able pair 1. Then on the second one i kept getting this error

Then i could pair another one. Then i got this error

So i could pair 1, then had to reboot between pairings.

Also, could we have some sort of expert mode for pairing? After i select add matter device, i get a prompt to berify my wifi, then the camera, the an i'm ready then an i'm done.

Get rid of all that. When i select a matter device, just get the code and go....

Did you do as asked by HE staff? PM you hub's UID (Settings>Hub Details) to @gopher.ny to he can look at at engineering logs in case there is something useful there.

Yes I did, 2 days ago, no response from him yet on it.

I paired a Tapo P430M Matter dimmer, and it came up as a Generic Matter outlet instead of a Generic Matter dimmer. Had to change the device type manually, now it seems to be working fine, so there's an identification problem with the P430M.

I do my initial pairing/provising on Apple Home, with an iPad, and it's flawless..
Then I generate a second pairing code, and type it into Matter device setup on HE.
And that works smoothly as well..

I wanted the multi-admin function anyways, but my sense is that the Apple provising process is a bit more refined, and well tested with 3rd party devices, than a HE only approach.

I also make sure that I ALWAYS pair things to Apple Home 1st, before adding to any other controllers (HE, Google, etc.) - Just to keep things in a single "Apple Mastered" Fabric. - My TBR's are HomePods and an AppleTV, so there is that as well..

Bottom line, the Matter pairing process has been remarkably smooth, compared to S2 with Zwave, and DLV on Zigbee. - So YMMV, I guess.

Just wanted to confirm you had responded to Gopher. The HE staff is a small team and they have a lot going on at all times. If Gopher sees something interesting he'll get back on it.

I know, he's been helping me for the last couple of months on another issue I've been having that's preventing me from moving beyond 2.4.1.177.
