Why Do You Love the Hubitat Community?

I have a habit, particularly at this time of night to post sentimental posts.... But this one.... well....

For me the engagement with staff, responsiveness of other Community members.... plus the awesomeness of the other dev's in the Community make all the difference.

Plus... And maybe it's just me.... but recognising someone's post in some meaningful way... isn't that nice... Just a like, a comment acknowledging it's existence... isn't that nice... let alone a critique good or bad... What a novelty... Rant over ...

Ah... Someone was listening....

Because I look at this bleak world and think, why not interact with other sad souls such as myself that have no other reason to live because their family hates him. Their wife is having an affair with the salesman at Best Buy. Their kids have no respect for them and often ignore even the simplest request...Their job is boring and tedius with a micromanaging boss straight out of the Incredibles. Gout and a hernia only add to the painful existential depression caused by the realization that they are doomed to this existence until the sweet relief of death, likely caused by having a Wink thrown at their forehead. Sadly luck will probably prevail and only frontal lobe damage will happen causing a waking coma in which they will fully be awake cognizant as their wife visits them in the hospital with their new lover and tut tut over being turned over to a state run nursing home to be cared for...or lack there of as their shriveling malnourished body succumbs.... Or maybe I'm projecting a bit....

I'd also add that I feel I can be myself and interact with others here... what they think of me may vary... But I hope others also feel they can also interact in our conversations without feeling any restrictions...

I love that people give freely of their own time - and what is more precious? - to help others. That's a rare gift in this weary world.

I really enjoy the free sharing of information, and time. There always seems to be someone willing and able to help out a new, and experienced user or anyone in between.

People are generally courteous and willing to have some fun.

And on top of everything, it’s great that the staff are always around, listening and participating in the discussions. Using the feedback to make this excellent platform even better!

Also quite enjoy @sburke781 and others’ philosophical questions and discussions.

I try to give back to those who offer the liqui(ur)d to supply my thought process.

There is no question. Because others are so willing to help out, especially new folks trying to understand new concepts. Just to name a few @jtp10181 has been extremely helpful to me on a number of topics, and just an all-around great guy, @rlithgow1 has also been quite helpful to me in figuring out some of the more advanced (for me anyway ) networking stuff I have attempted, as well and issues with apps or devices. The developers of the community apps and drivers are absolutely phenomenal. You @sburke781 , not just for your awesome Ecowitt drivers, but also for the way you strive to foster that sense of community, as well as interject when sometimes a discussion becomes overly heated. @thebearmay amazes me all the time when someone blindly asks if a drive or app exists, and often within a few hours it does. The list really goes on and is by no means all-inclusive, but those are just a few off the top of my head.

And of course, we can't overlook the Hubitat staff who are in here, helping out where they can, as well as taking feedback and suggestions. It's all truly a remarkable community to be a part of!

This is one of the least toxic forums I've ever been a part of. That's the main enjoyment. Occasional jokes, lots of help from staff and community members. When the toxic people creep in, they are dealt with swiftly. 1st through kindness, then through GTFO measures. (Which is when they complain no one was nice to them lol) It's a great platform...

I completely agree with your statement.

It just sad how much trash talk there is online. Very rarely do I see it here and when I do, it is not tolerated.

This is a nice place to browse without negativity.

Of course maybe that makes us all a bunch of nerds, but at least we are happy nerds.

This forum sealed the deal with me selecting Hubitat. I got on here before I bought the HE and asked a few very noob questions, to which I received thoughtful, knowledgeable and friendly responses. Did the same on another forum for a competing product and was first ignored, then told to learn about the product before posting (I was trying to learn and had googled my question in relation to both products; the results were inconclusive so I posted.)

After that experience I poked around some more and decided there are enough friendly people here to get me over whatever high learning curve there was with HE. Good decision.

I must say, I appreciate the help, advice and direction found here. You people offer suggestions, even in the event I asked what should be obvious. (Yes, even stupid questions are allowed, thank you for your patience.) There are so many levels of knowledge and the grace offered to simple minds like mine that have immeasurably contributed to my experience and success in building our home automation. I encourage anyone to participate (keeping it nice of course). Thank you all so much.
