It is obvious to all who frequent these pages that different people at Hubitat wear different hats - at least most of the time. It would be helpful if names and functions could be listed so new people (and us with lousy memories) can directly tag the proper person. I was going to start this myself, but thought I would let Hubitat staff reply if they want this list. @bobbyD You seem to be the head support person, so what do you think?
Just be aware that a lot of times the other staff may not be available even if they're tagged (otherwise they'd never get any work done fielding questions). I guess I'm just saying, even if they're tagged, don't always expect an answer. (Not being snarky with my reply)...
You can always feel free to tag the @ambassadors group for help identifying a staff member that might be relevant for a particular thread.
Yes, I realize that. I can also tag @support . On the other hand, many threads are tagging specific people that can give directions/fix issues/add devices to built-in drivers/handle account questions/modify web pages/...
And I was not aware of the @ambassadors group, nor is it listed if you type an asterisk and ambassadors. I doubt if many knows about it. Maybe on purpose?
I find that a lot of staff are just good at finding posts here and responding when needed--without a tag. (Bruce in particular with Rule Machine, but others for their areas, too.) I'd be surprised if they didn't also see this and respond with their preferences about if/how/when to be tagged.
I think the biggest thing is they respond to unique stuff vs stuff you can find everywhere if you search. They are on the whole though very active in the forums. I've never seen a company so interactive with it's users as Hubitat. Though I think the problem with your ask is that it would lead people to asking them questions about their problems to staff who have other jobs instead of going through support.. That can get truly messy...
Don't know about asterisk, but it shows up with an at sign (see last entry in screen shot)....
In any case, no I don't think it is hidden/non-obvious on purpose. Not really sure what you are trying to insinuate by that comment anyway.
Good luck!
I don't think there was any malintent with @jameslslate's comment. I don't have @ambassadors
popup when I type the @
either -- my list looks exactly like yours but without the entry for @ambassadors
at the bottom.
When I fully type it out manually, I get a warning that doing so will ping 11 people. So it seems like I can probably mention the group but it doesn't autocomplete.
Oh I don't think so either. Just having a conversation...
No one aint flaimin' no one!
^^^ This. Amazing presence here in the forums across the entire HE team, something I really appreciate given my background at a large consumer electronics company, where we had to beg and grovel to get anyone not specifically not in support to spend any time in support forums. HE is tops.
I wasn't aware of the "@ ambassadors" tag either (not entering it normally in the message I post so I don't tag them unnecessarily), and my tag list never updates no matter how much of the tag I enter, either. That is strange, and clearly evidence of an international conspiracy.
I mean I suppose we could dox @bobbyD or @gopher.ny and stand outside their house holding up our Hubitat's ala Say Anything.....
I only see it in the list if I type at sign "amb"!... Interestingly enough.
But whatever. I guess it isn't relevant to the original request anyway.
That's when I don't see it too. Is it possible that you see it because you are in the group, but because I'm not in the group I don't get the autocomplete?
I meant an at sign. @amb
shows this:
Anyway, I was not insinuating anything. I thought maybe it was an easy way for you 11 to tag each other without getting spammed by us. Seems like a normal thing to guess why it appeared to be hidden. Sorry.
I also realize I can make my own list, and then can refer to it while trying to help other users. I was just thinking it would help others. I'll go away now.
I think it was a productive discussion...
I think anyone should be able to tag the ambassadors group now, if they are so inclined.
I can’t actually speak for staff. But I think it’s possible they’d rather not maximize opportunities to be tagged by the majority of users.
Same with moderators tag.
You owe no apologies, perfectly reasonable questions and post overall...helped a number of us regular users (aka "Addicted") learn about an "@" group we weren't even aware of. So I say bravo, well done, and thank you.
Nope - I'm sorry, I get what you were saying now. And thanks for pointing out that not everyone can see that as I didn't know that!!
No need to go away. All questions are good if constructive, sometimes it just takes a minute for people like me that like to think aloud (and have wandering minds) to get to the actual question.
Typically I think of the following -
Bug the community 1st and see if one of the usual cast of characters can help. Past that when it gets to the Hubitat folks...
@bobbyD for support stuff, when the community can't help (probably still preferred overall to submit a ticket though, as Bobby is great, but still just 1 man last I checked)
@mike.maxwell Zigbee stuff, lock manager
@bcopeland Zwave stuff
@gopher.ny UI / Backend / Database stuff
@bravenel RM / basic rules / Simple Automations / all things Pascal
There are a few others floating around in the ether too, but I think those are the most common gurus.
@moncho1138 - mobile apps.
