Which USB Stick?

Hello,

The postwoman has literally just handed me the Hubitat parcel. Unboxed it (UK model) and there are two USB sticks:

A black one with a white Hubitat sticker.
A white one with a white Hubitat sticker and also the z-wave logo.

The instructions say to insert the (singular) USB stick with the grey side up. Errrr...

So I'm going to guess it's the white z-wave USB stick to use. What's the black one?

Cheers,
Rich

Black one is for zigbee, insert both sticks to the hub

Gotcha. @bobbyD just PM'd me with the same.

Looking forward to getting migrated

I have just taken delivery of my UK kit,
Does anyone suggest which of the ZWave or Zigbee USBs is best used with the USB extension cable provided? Or just plug them both into the small Hub?

The Hubitat Hub is located only 2 ft from an additional WiFI AP currently set to Channel 11.
The main Modem Router is downstairs and set to Channel 1 (2.4GHz) and Channel 36 (5GHz).

Hubitat Hub has allocated Zigbee Channel 16.
Should I change this before embarking on my migration?

Zigbee channel solely depends on what wifi channels are in use (wifi interference) and any other channels currently being used by other zigbee hubs like Hue (zigbee interference).

Pick the one with the least interference. If you are using Wifi on 1 & 11, I would pick something in the middle like 18. But 16 should be fine too, unless there is a lot of other channel 6 interference from neighbors, etc.

Be careful putting any hub right next to a Wifi AP... You can get a lot of interference from the AP - especially on zigbee. 3 ft apart is often considered minimum, but I would never put mine closer than 10 ft. Right now my HE hub is in the middle of the house, connected to the rest of the network via a powerline adapter - far from my APs.

Here is a helpful website with more information:

Purely anecdotal from watching community posts for the past year... many users report very good success on Zigbee channel 20, myself included.

Glad to hear your hub as arrived. Take you time, start slowly, and have some fun!

Yes but they dont physically fit as the USB ports dont provide the space. Thats why they provide the USB extension I assume.

Does it matter which is inserted into the extension to start? Zigbee or zwave?

Nop, personal preference matters.
