Sliliconlabs released some updates to their sdk in 2023 but it seems to me that it's been a long time since we received an update for the zwave radio... Is there a way to see the installed version on our C8?
What determines when Hubitat decides to release an update for zwave radio?
Thanks
You can view the current version using this endpoint: http://<hubIP>/hub/zwaveVersion
I'm not exactly sure what determines when a new version is made available, but in the past, it's been because there was a fix that was expected to be useful for addressing specific problems people had (like the freeze-ups on the radio).
Thanks @bertabcd1234
It look that my C8 is on 7.18.1 version. On Siliconlab website there is a lot of update since...
Yup, most of which don't fix anything of any importance, are for new hardware support (so don't apply to the C8), are device side fixes (so don't apply to the C8), are ZWAVE LR specific fixes/improvements (which the C8 doesn't support yet), etc.
Also keep in mind that with SiLabs firmware newer DOES NOT equal better as often as not... No one in their right mind would install a .0 release in production. And quite a number of regressions in .0 and .1 releases get ironed out in .2 and .3... So maybe today I would go to 7.20.2... But I sure as hell wouldn't go 7.21.0 for anything other than testing...
That said, there ARE a few important fixes in some of the most recent releases (some with backups... some LR... etc). I expect the hubitat devs are aware of them, and are evaluating them. I expect they will need a firmware update to "really" fix the zwave radio backups as well as before they roll out ZWAVE LR support sometime in the future.
That said I wouldn't expect "the next firmware update" to be the latest version though - it is often smarter to use the last stable point release of the previous version for the reasons mentioned above.
Of course, only @bcopeland knows for sure.
