Where to begin?

Hello all,

I just bought a ton of smart home devices and have started putting them all in working order. I will run them in conjunction with my Google Home and I have a Hubitat hub C7. Here is my question:

Do I need to individually set each device up through their individual apps then pair them to Google Home, then connect them with Hubitat or what does the beat work flow look like? Any advice here is greatly appreciated.

Also, best advice for getting devices to stay online? Some of the devices I have already set up keep falling offline and it is annoying!

Thanks everyone!

I think it would help others here if you could list out at least some of your devices, particularly those causing you problems and going offline. Also, the types of devices, including things like are they predominantly zigbee or zwave or wifi or a mix, are these lights, switches, etc.

And welcome aboard btw.

Welcome to the community

The first step is to take a look at the list of compatible devices for Hubitat:

Since you mention that each of your devices has individual apps and they are not staying online, it sounds like all of your devices are Wifi devices. If that is the case, you might have trouble getting them to work with Hubitat. Hubitat predominantly works directly with Zigbee & ZWave devices that you can then share to work with Google Home. Unfortunately, the reverse is not usually the case. A device that Google Home can control thru Wifi cannot necessarily be then controllable by Hubitat.

If your devices are not on the Compatible List linked above, then search for the devices on this forum because there are some Wifi devices such as TP-Link that the community has created integrations. However, generally speaking, Hubitat does not work directly with Wifi devices.

Everything in the zwave and zigbee world is dependant upon the quality of the mesh you create.

Thanks for the help and the welcome,

Hubitat C7
Google Nest Wifi Mesh
Google Chromecast 2nd gen
Google Nest Hub
Google Nest Learning Thermostat
Google Nest Hello Doorbell Camera
Google Nest Protect
Nest Yale Lock

Samsung Smart TV -(offline often)
Wyze Cam 1080 HD indoor Starter Pack (Camera, motion sensor, 2 door contact sensors, sensor bridge, 3 smart lights, 2 wyze outlet plugs)
-(offline often)

eufyCam 1080p IP65 2 cam kit
Lumiman Dimmable smart lights (WiFi no hub required) *8
KULED K36 2 pack Smart Switch
Amazon smart plug (2.4GHz WiFi)
MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener

Also, I have been using these devices on a NETGEAR AC1750 (16x4) WiFi Cable Modem and Router Combo C6300. I am going to retire that and start using the Google Nest WiFi instead.

Sounds like if I want to stick with strictly Wi-Fi devices I should make my Wi-Fi stronger in my house and attach any possible Z wave Zigby device to the Hubitat! Thanks again everyone.

Thanks for the details on your setup. I'm probably not the one to help you, but that info will help.

You are right about working towards connecting your zigbee devices to your Hubitat hub, that would be preferable I would think. Certainly the strength of your WiFi signal is important and will contribute generally to the performance of those devices, but it may not necessarily be your problem at the moment. You probably need to work through each device and look then up on the compatibility list as well as this forum to see how people integrate them. There's probably not one solution for all I would expect.

Boy o boy, that list sure screams "HOME ASSISTANT", not Hubitat.
