Where did these come from?

On my C8 at work, when I look at the zwave devices in SETTINGS, there's a large amount of extra devices that aren't installed nor do they show up in the devices page. Where did they come from?

FYI... I have a C8 Pro at home and both are connected to the same account and I never set up anything to have them linked together.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Those are ghosts, caused by failed pairings. You need to get rid of them all to have a healthy mesh.

72 failed pairings? How's that possible when the few devices I installed went perfectly without a problem. I've never seen this behavior with my C7, C8 and C8 Pro when they were my home hubs at one time.

Did you purchase this hub from Amazon? I thinking you might have received a used hub that was not fully reset.

No... it was mine from the beginning and I wiped it before moving it to my work.

Can you send us a private message along with your hub ID at @support_team so we can take a look at your engineering logs?

How did you "wipe" it?

Don't remember as this was a while ago, either a factory reset or as close to it as possible. There was literally no devices in the list when I started adding the new devices.

Unless you did the radio resets your old nodes would still be there..

If I made a backup and reset everything... can I restore and the ghosts will vanish? Trying to get rid of 72 ghosts normally would be nightmarish.

That would restore everything to exactly where it is now..

Ugh... that figures. Then I'm stuck. Oh well, since my home computer has Simply Studio installed, I'll connect my work hub on my home network, and remove the ghosts via USB stick.

FWIW... after all these years, Hubitat really should have an internal method to blast away these ghosts instead of having to use 3rd party software and an external USB controller stick.

Did no one suggest installing JS and removing them in Z-wave details?

I was going to after 2.5.2 comes out.. The process of moving to JS is smoother now especially for C-5 to C-8 hubs..

Gemini suggested this, but I reminded it that that's not an option on the C8... yet.

Ask to join the beta program and you can run JS on a C8.

Out of curiosity, since I only have 6 physical zwave devices, can I not wipe ALL zwave items with some type of reset (if so how?) without effecting my linked thermostats (etc) and just re-add them. I think this would be a shorter route than dealing with 72 ghosts.

Yes. You can reset the z-wave radio from the Diagnostic Tool at port 8081 as shown below:

  1. Login to the Diagnostic Tool and click on Advanced.

  2. Click on Reset Z-Wave Radio.

WARNING - THIS WILL REQUIRE YOU TO RE-PAIR ALL OF YOUR Z-WAVE DEVICES, so I would recommend you replace your existing devices in rules with virtual devices. Then replace them back to the re-paired z-wave devices after pairing them.

Going to hijack this since I'm pretty sure I'm asking the same question. Just installed 2.5.2 and switched to ZWaveJS on 2 C7 hubs. One one hub with just a few zwave devices I have this guy:

Which is 1/4 nodes

and on the other, my main, hub I have a few more:

This is 4/31 total nodes

I assume these are ghosts? I did not see entries like this before switching to JS. I've looked in some other threads and it seems like it's easier to remove ghosts with JS. So uh, what's my next step here, start slamming remove buttons? If they are ghosts, could that be holding up some of the other device interviews? Seems all my mains devices came right in and then I got a few sensors but I have 2 buttons in particular that are communicating with the hub (and updating last recv'd message) but are NOT passing through to the driver so they aren't actually making the actions happen that they should I assume because they are still waiting to interview.

EDIT: YOLO'd it, clicked remove, they went away, everything is good on "light" hub and I have 2 devices left this morning, one battery, one powered that's not powered on the main hub. So I think it's looking pretty good...
