What speaker for TTS?

I've been reading that Sonos are mostly used but has anyone been using an alternative ?

Also do you need a paid account to use Sonos as I've never owned one, currently looking on eBay for a play 1 gen 1

Free to use. Great speaker for TTS. Rich sounding.
Check out the IKEA Symfonisk (SONOS). Better sound than a Play 1 first gen, and has the modern Sonos features, including Air Play 2 if that interests you. I bought one in the AS-IS section at IKEA for $95 USD.

ok thank you, i made an offer for a sonos on the bay so i'll see what happens with that

Can I also recommend IKEA symfonsik which are sonos speakers and fully compatible, they are $99 and pretty decent...especially for TTS

your Amazon Echos can to tts

Agreed on the Symfonisks, they are more similar to the PLAY:1 model, than the ONE, and don't have any of the "value added" Google/Amazon features. I don't bother with very much TTS, but I found the Sonos to be good at it, as long as you weren't also using the speaker for music. Same for the Symfonisk of course. Dedicate one to TTS, and I expect it will be just about perfect.

I have a ton of echo dots and the TTS has been hit or miss, sometimes it just doesn’t work. Then a day later it will be fine....it’s a cloud integration, the Sonos TTS is just superior

It would be good to know what integration you are using and version.

The latest ES I find more reliable and low overhead.

Are there certain models of Sonos speakers that work with Hubitat? Are there any to avoid?

They really all work the same in my experience.

Agree with @rob121. I would look at the Symfonisks from a cost perspective, and the fact that they don't have the microphones for Google Home or Alexa that the Sonos:One has. The One SL lacks the Mics, but at $179, it's still a fair bit more than a Symfonisk which are $99 each at Ikea.

However, theres the not necessarily insignificant issue of potentially having to Visit Ikea, which I find to be pretty awful. But hey, YMMV.

The problem is if my wife comes with me to IKEA I spend the next three weeks assembling furniture I didn’t need.

Yeah -- I'm fortunate, my Mrs isn't keen on the furniture, but she likes some of the gewgaws. Fortunately, Ikea does ship, and if you're sneaky, you can pick them up without actually going into the "shopping" side of the store.

I've ordered a couple from Ebay as well, to good results.

So these are wifi speakers?

And does it use the default TTS voice from Hubitat's Settings page? Sorry for so many questions.

They are Sonos speakers designed in cooperation with IKEA. So yes, they are WiFi, but like all except for the new portable Sonos speaker, they also have an Ethernet jack if you prefer that over WiFi.

You can set the voice to whatever is available
