What Should People Buy (Me) This Christmas?

With no commercial ties to any home automation manufacturer (sigh)... What would people recommend for others to purchase this festive season? What have others invested in and found to really benefit their setup? It doesn't have to be something newly released in 2022/23, it could be a long-standing product that you have recently discovered and found to really benefit those in your home.

For me, I have enjoyed both the Philips Hue Tap Dial and the Aqara FP2. I'll admit, both of these are possible via platforms outside of Hubitat, but able to be integrated with HE by the great work of Community developers and the openness of the HE platform to allow these integrations to be possible.

My Hue Tap Dials are located in the highly used areas of my home, including Kitchen / Living area, Master (my) Bedroom and the Study, allowing me to control my lights, blinds / awnings and modes. The 2 Aqara FP2's are used to augment my lighting rules to keep the lights on (for now) in the Kitchen / Dining, Living Room and Study, until I am confident enough to trigger lighting routines on their presence detection.

I've just looked at the Tap Dial based on your post and it looks like something I would definitely want!

I've just had a quick look in the forums and I cannot see if it works with Hubitat directly and what driver it would require. Is there a default driver it needs? Does it require the Hue Hub? (which I do not have).

Direct compatibility I would need to check on.... There have been one or two topics about this, which I mostly focused on around connecting to the hue hub, which I do have... Personally, I have them connected to a Zigbee2MQTT instance I am running outside of HE, connected via Node RED calls to Maker API.

Looking back through some of those topics, connecting to Z2M seems to provide a more complete experience, at least for what I want, so I would suggest taking that path if you can.

Thanks for your advice - I'm keen to keep my set up as simple as possible and I'm not wanting to add on something like that. Hopefully in time there will be a way to directly connect them more easily. A device like that would be very appealing (to me).

Where's the fun in that... Nah, that's fair enough.... A good approach to take, When you relax that ideal come and let me know

I need a flipper solenoid for my Elektra pinball machine

Wow... a piece of tech the same age as me.... Though, now that I think about some of the conversations here, not that uncommon, perhaps a more unlikely situation....

Maybe I should introduce a caveat that the suggestion be for a piece of tech younger than me...

So you won't be buying me tickets to a Bruce Springsteen concert...
How disappointing.... If you get tickets, let me know... Would be nice to see him once.

What I really need for Christmas is an extra pair of hands …..

I’m moving houses, and there’s a ton of stuff to do to setup automations. It’ll take me 2-3 months. Versus 1-2 weeks working alongside someone.

Those that can will help... But unless you can pay our way, our help will have to come with a delay, unfortunately... but we will help where we can, as always...

Although, more seriously, I wish I could buy you (and the rest of us) a peaceful world for Christmas. A world devoid of mindless repetitive cycles of humans killing and denigrating each other.

I think that would be a weirdly a "killer" selling point.... To see the raw emotion of those involved makes the $10-20 "fun" gift at Christmas seem even more meaningless.....

My response also seems a little inadequate if look at it again... For what is such a serious subject.
