I got a Zooz ZSE18 motion sensor and trying to fiddle with the settings. I noticed "Motion Cleared Delay", is this how long it waits before it tries to detect motion again? Or is that more hard coded into the sensors, and this delay just shortens how long to kick that off?
I have a scenario where I'd like the motion sensor to be ready after say, 5 seconds of no motion. I'm wondering if I can't really do that...
yeah, cleared delay doesn't seem to do anything I can tell? hence asking. I also have a USB port for throwing a battery bank or just hardwiring it. These are actually considerations I might do, heh.
i'll look for motion reset, but if it's supposed to be on the devices page, y eah... guess it's not supported
I'm aware of 3 types of motion settings, but the way they're named in manuals and handlers don't always match their actual behavior.
Motion Cleared Delay: How long after motion stops it reports inactive. Each additional motion event causes the delay counter to re-start.
Motion Re-trigger: How long it waits after sending the initial motion event before sending another one. This only applies if the additional motion events occur before the cleared delay time elapses.
Motion Blind Time: How long it ignores motion after the initial motion. If it's set to something like 5 seconds you can move multiple times within that 5 seconds without resetting the motion clear delay timer or sending additional motion events.
The Zooz ZSE18 is the motion cleared delay so after the initial motion event if it doesn't detect any motion it will report inactive based on that settings value which you can set to 5 seconds.
If I remember correctly that device has a built-in 3 second blind time which you can't change.
Just make sure after changing that setting you're physically waking the device up so that the setting actually gets changed.
Devices that run on batteries sleep so changes to the settings can't be sent to them until the device wakes up. After changing the settings you have to either wait for it to wake up, which could take 4+ hours or force the device to wake up.
If you haven't been doing that then that would explain why that motion cleared time setting doesn't appear to be doing anything.
I think the wake up procedure for this device is to open the cover and hold the button for 5 seconds. If you open logging before doing that you'll see logging messages about the changes being sent to the device when it wakes up.
