I assumed it would scan channels for activity but if no devices are active on a channel does it not find it?
I just scanned and it only found the hubs own channel 20, and not my channel for the hue hub in use?

It will find any neighboring zigbee stuff
well it didnt find my hue hub and it is still working ie... does it only work in the c8?
it did find channel 11 of the second scan after i turn a hue ligtht on and off ..
so maybe it doesnt find it if there is not recent activity?
It's asking the radio "what other Zigbee stuff do you see?" and displays whatever radio returns. The details are up to the radio's firmware, which is essentially a black box accompanied by a handful of manuals.
That is the most likely explanation. We can give it more time to scan for better results, but there's that whole responsiveness vs. usefulness dilemma.
In the beta I had issues getting it to work anywhere near consistent. On C7 it would find a bunch of stuff, then on C8 nothing. I dont think I ever got my C8 to find anything actually...
My C8 continues to show nothing since this feature was added.
I only tried it a few times early in Beta and then once yesterday when this thread came up... I just have a C8. I recall the scan returning nada once or twice, but like yesterday, it typically returns my C8 and my (single) Hue bridge on the correct channels.
No entries beyond those 2 things have ever shown up for me. Whether it's appropriate or not
, I'm interpreting that as a warm-fuzzy my channel selections are pretty good.
It even found my neighbours Home Assistant... that explains a lot!

Are you sure that you can't put in an additional column (on the left) which shows the cross reference to wifi channels? I'm not asking you to scan any channels, just put in the cross reference - this is usually where the interference comes from.
Based on what I've seen (on C-3, C-7, and C-8) the output of the Zigbee Channel Scan feature varies depending on which type of hub it's run:
C-3 correctly reports the PAN ID's but reports Extended PAN ID's in reversed byte order
C-7 does the same, except it never reports its own PAN ID/Extended PAN ID
C-8 properly reports PAN ID's and Extended PAN ID's.
Sorry to resurrect this thread but does anyone know how to find out the PAN ID of my Hue bridge? It's channel 20 but so are 2 others presumably neighbors, and I'd love to know which one is mine in that group of 3
on hue app under settings/bridge settings.. the id
That's what I'd have thought, and checked that first. But it doesn't match the ID showing on the scan. Now that I've actually changed channels I know which is which, but not by ID or extended ID, even up-endianed
for what its worth: This was also my experience having just added a Hue Bridge approximately a week ago to my tiny system. I was surprised to find that it was operating on Channel 25 having read that it was likely operating on Cannel 20. My Hubitat was operating on Channel 11 when I added the Hue Bridge.
A Side Note, re: adding the Hue Bridge. I have a very small system but adding the Bridge made things even smaller and more manageable. I could play/experiment more freely with the Hubitat knowing that my lighting would continue to work if I made a mess of things.
