What do the Set Level Number on Dimmer Devices do?

I know this must be a basic question but I couldn't find any documentation describing what these do.

Sets the level of brightness 0 - 100%

The first number is the dim level, 0 to 100.

The second number, if supported by the device, is how long the transition should take in seconds.

I believe not all devices support the transition field, is that correct?

This is correct. Some devices do, some don't. Easy to discover, just try it and see.

What's the reason for not labelling the fields?

It's actually a more complex subject than meets the eye. The simple answer is that it doesn't, although the platform could be changed to do it. I personally don't put a very high priority on this, and don't think it's where you want us to spend our time either.

Not if it's complicated. No I don't. You are all doing such great work in other areas, I don't want things that are complicated and offer little return on investment to bog down your efforts.

It's not complicated to fix, it's just a complex subject. We will open an issue for it, and at some point it will be addressed.

Pushing that one way down the road is a very reasonable response.
