Today I built a external bridge from Smart HQ where my GE Double Oven is registered, into Hubitat with 3 devices, One for the overall control panel , and another for each oven. Not looking for the Hubitat to control the oven but the Hubitat to listen to events of say the oven warmup is done and the timers for cooking are done. The speaker in this unit is so quiet that it's now going to announce over my speakers on the state of the oven and cooking.
I wanted to be able to arm and disarm my eufy cameras in sync with HSM modes. After trying many different approaches that never ended up working for me I finally got a HA green. This now allows my cameras to be put of Hubitat to arm and disarm, as well as exposing a heap of different options like human or pet recognition etc.
I have only set HA up in the last month so just finding more ways to integrate Eufy into my system and rules.
Another bonus of running HA into Hubitat is that I can now have HE lock my car (BYD) and close the windows when I put HE into night mode.
I am also looking to add my Sungrow Solar setup to HE via HA to be able to have Solar curtailment when feed in prices are negative.
Another integration I am on my way to solving is my ducted air conditioning. This too will be brought to HE via HA
On the one hand I am surprised by the popularity of this topic, but on the other hand it makes sense that there is a need for people to have other options, like I have also experienced.
Would be interesting to hear more about others who have found solutions outside of HA... (Likely some who have already responded amd I have forgotten about or overlooked...)
Outside of HA, I've come to embrace Apple Home/HomeKit. My family and I are full blown iPhone users and, as such, Apple Home/HomeKit just makes sense. I use the @tonesto7 Homebridge V2 app to bring my Hubitat devices into Homebridge. Homebridge is running as a Docker container on my Unraid server. I know Hubitat now has a built-in app, but this setup has been so reliable/stable for me that I just don't see a need to move off.
I recently replaced the Schlage Zigbee lock I'd been using for several years. There was nothing wrong with it, I just fell in love with the Aqara U400 and all of its features. The UWB hands free unlocking is a game changer, in my opinion. I have the lock setup in the Aqara app and also in Apple Home/Homekit. I then brought it into Hubitat via Matter.
Lastly, I use Amazon Echo devices for voice control. Over time, I slowly managed to add various devices throughout the house (usually bought during Prime Days or other sales) and they just simply work for our needs. I would love to move to Apple Home Pods at some point, but the cost is a bit prohibitive considering I would need a minimum of 7.
Good point, the other A stuff was mentioned (Android user here), plus Docker (which I use) were already mentioned. Good points...
There is a device limit for bridges, so for me, Homebridge on HE allows me to create multiple bridges.
Speaking of Homebridge, I use it with additional plugins (non-Tonesto) to integrate video to Apple Home from Ring doorbell and a cheap dumb camera to monitor my HVAC. Home has become my main "dashboard" as it's always within reach of my wife and me and we can use voice commands that make its way back to HE.
The built-in HE AirPlay integration is unable to initiate choosing/loading of tracks. So, Home is required to play music through Home's Automations when Hubitat routines run. Virtual switches from HE triggers Home automation to select the song/playlist and play (wake up music, wind down music, brown noise through the night, etc).
There is also the roundabout "integration" of Apple presence into HE. Due to other integrations reliability or getting blocked over the years, I've stopped using all of them.
These are just some non-HA solutions. The only reason to need non-native HE integration is for my devices which existed before HE. Starting a couple of years ago, I only buy device that have native integration - built-in or community or AI coded.
Same here.
If there isn't support on Hubitat, but there's support on other platforms you could very likely vibe-code a driver into existence. I don't know how to code, but was able to use Claude Code with code examples from Hubitat, Homey and HA community developers to create a Roborock Q10 S5+ driver. The LLM was even able to add some features that were not available on the only other working integration at the time (Homey).
Being a developer yourself, at least you would have a better handle on what it was producing. I would assume that would make the process faster. I created it completley with the free model by simply waiting the obiligtory several hours between session limits. Unfortunately, the unwelcomed popularity boom of Claude Code means there's no way to reasonablly do that anymore for free. They cut you off after just one or two prompts.
The one item i have never been able to manage a way to integrate well is a Frigidaire gallery dehumidifier i have. I have had it for some time now. It does integrate in a way through alexa or Google, but it just isn't very reliable with that method.
Easiest unsupported device integration ever was my integration of my Ecovacs Deebot vacuum. My (very old) Deebot didn't have any HE integration available. Then I was doing some deep cleaning around its charging station and had to unplug the Deebot from the wall plug. The Deebot immediatly woke up and started vacuuming. A little testing quickly confirmed that whenever its charging station lost power it would immediately start a cleaning session. Hmmm...
So I put it on a smart plug and all I had to do to start a vacuum session was turn the plug off for a couple seconds. Bingo, custom Hubitat Deebot integration. ![]()
