I'm looking for some inspiration and help here.
LZW36 looks like a great device but mine is still in the box after 2 months.
I can't install it without a remote (wife and kids won't approve it) and I couldn't find anything that worked the way I expected.
For a seamless transition I need 5 buttons and I was counting on the Ikea TRÅDFRI 5 remote for this until I learned it doesn't work with HE.
I don't have a Caseta Pro bridge. I considered buying one to use their remotes which look great but if I understood it right I would need two remotes: one for the light and one for the fan right? Since their fan remote has only the buttons the I would need operate the fan.
Anyway... how are you guys handling it? Am I overthinking this?
You could use one Pico to control both fan and light because each button has pushed, held, and released. You would use either Button Controller native app or Rule Machine to assign actions to those buttons.
Or if you don't want to spend over $100 on a Pro Bridge to buy a $15 Pico, check out the RGBGenie 5122. It is Zigbee so it doesn't require any additional purchase. $30
I didn't know about this RGB Genie remote. It looks interesting, I will check it out.
Assuming I go with the Caseta Pro (so I can also leverage pico remotes for other things).
Would I be able to do something like this:
Bottom button:
Push: turn on the fan at speed 1 (if already on just set the speed)
Hold: turn off
Top button:
Push: turn fan on at speed 2 (if already on just set the speed)
Hold: turn fan on at speed 3 (if already on just set the speed)
Middle buttons:
Up, Down arrows: Dim the light
Center button: toggle light between on and off.
I think I can work with something like this (still not that intuitive for a guest but what can i do).
Also, why in the world the remote with the fan icons is double the price than light one?
Does it have anything special besides the icons?
I don't see anything wrong with what you want to do with the button pushes. One thing I like to do for a single button:
On button push, if fan is off, set speed to low;
if speed is low, set speed to medium;
if speed is medium, set speed to high;
if speed is high; set to off.
Then you can control the fan with a single button. I used to control one of my fan/light combos with an Eria Dimmer that has 4 buttons but only has hold on buttons 2 & 3 so it only had 6 actions that could be performed.
That sounds cool.
I'm trying to avoid this one button scenario because I'm thinking it is going to be hard for wife and kids.
How will they know for sure the fan was turned off without standing in there and waiting for the speed to decrease considerably - close to stopped?
That is why I'm looking for something more intuitive as the remote they have now.
Even if speed is at max, they can just press he off button and walk away.
But I liked this Eria Dimmer, ordering one now from Amazon and will see what I can do with it.
