I'm migrating from Wink. I'm going through a lot of growing pains, but migrating a few things every day. I went to bed last night after spending a few hours getting frustrated with Rule Machine trying to create a fairly complicated action and getting it work only sometimes when I run it. But that's only maybe related to this. My lights are set to turn themselves off at a certain time after I went to bed. I woke at 0230 only to see everything I'd switched over to HE control, having not followed the rules set for them. Ironically, my Wink actions worked perfectly, and have even through the latest mess.
I tried to go to my dashboard, it wouldn't connect. Hmmm. It would connect to the portal, and my hub was there, but the main menu/dashboard, nada. The hub was still showing a green light, but it obviously had a glitch going, so I power cycled. After a few minutes I was able to access my dashboard and manually perform the actions that weren't performed. Because I was up so late last night I slept in this AM and missed the morning actions. Hopefully we're back to working again, but that problem has me wondering if I can trust HE, since the problem to me seemed completely out of the blue.
Need to see your rules to figure out what happened.
Please setup a DHCP reservation for your Hubitat in your router's DHCP table. Power-cycling by pulling the plug is not recommended. In this case, it sounds like your Hubitat lost its IP address.
thanks for the reply but again you're talking Greek afaic. I'm computer savy up to a point and trying to keep up, but I usually need rudimentary instructions, then I figure out what I did, and why I did it. What I'm guessing what youre saying is, set up a static ip address for my hubitat?
Yes. And also any LAN devices that your Hubitat connects to (eg. Hue bridge, Lutron bridge, Yee lights, etc.)
That I can probably handle, Thanks.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to contact support just to make sure there isn't something else going on with your hub. They are generally pretty helpful and they have some tools to look at the system that aren't available to users.
The best way is via email to: support@hubitat.com (you should receive an automated response with a ticket number)
Thanks Tony
I've assigned static addresses to my HE and hubs. If I do have to reset/restart the HE, what is the best way to do that, besides unplugging and re plugging.
Through the web ui. If port 80 doesn't work, try 8081. Only if your Hubitat cannot be reached on both ports (and you're sure of its IP address), should unplugging be resorted to. And if you must unplug, do so from the outlet end, and not the microUSB connector (it's delicate).
