I moved all my Visonic 340's (E's and SMA's) from ST to HE and all joined without issue. Reset, join, move on to next one. AFAIK the E vs SMA was just branding. All of my contact sensors are Visonic except for one or two Ecolinks. Holding the tamper switch down while inserting the battery is sometimes a little tricky.

Also weak Zigbee mesh will causes these issues. I have more than a handful of these sensors using generic driver with no issue after adding more repeaters.
Your battery will drain quicker with a weak mesh as well.
I think I have most of them now following the many instructions as able and rebooting my hub. My key was the configure key
