I want to control a space heater using a "temperature sensor" and an "outlet/plug" - and have it on the "dashboard"' as a thermostat.
Two apps exist inside HPM -- one is the "Advanced vThermostat Manager by Nelson Clark" and the other is the " Virtual Thermostat Manager by Eliot Stocker"
I was using the "Virtual Thermstat" -- but there's a bug (it seems) where a Dashboard doesn't change "red" for when heat comes on. Otherwise it works.
So I was going to change to a "vThermostat" (which does turn red)
But I've already built about a dozen rules using the old "Virtual Thermostat" - and a couple of dashboards.
Went to use the "Swap Apps Device". No go. NEITHER of the two types of 'virtual thermostats' show up in "Swap Apps Device"
What am I doing wrong. All of my other devices, virtual switches, etc all show up for "Swap Apps Device"
Just tried this and I think it would work. Go to your device page and change both to use the built in virtual thermostat driver. Using the virtual driver it shows up then after the swap change it back.
The others probably don't show up because they are created by apps?
I'll give that a shot. Was slightly worried about switching the device from an "app created child" to an internal device, and back again. But worst case, I'll restore the database (taking a backup first).
Thanks for the creative idea. Hadn't considered that. (But @Support -- I think this is a bug (can't "Swap App Device"- along with the other possible bug -- the Virtual Thermostat not going red in a dashboard)
A close-out post. Did end up having to clone - change thermostat name during clone - then delete old rule. Dashboards had to be updated manually.
I'd think if that could be done, and works, then a tweak to "Swap Apps Device" would also be viable. But I'll leave it at that. There is a work-around.
