Virtual Appliance?

I'd be really interested in a virtual hub I could run on ESXi. I imagine it would be a popular option for others as well with the virtualization infrastructure already in place such as myself.

Asked and answered years ago.. "not interested" is the short answer

Yea, but things change sometimes. Doesn't hurt to ask. I'd pay full price for it.

I would use it too (though would prefer kvm/qemu to esxi), but that doesn't seem to be their direction.

I could also use running containers on my home automation hub, but that doesn't seem to be in the works either.

Such is life. I get that my needs aren't the majority.

I run ESXi 8.0 on 3 hosts with VSAN since work was nice enough to buy me a VMUG subscription.

Very nice!

I don't use ESXi v8 at home or work as I have too many images that need legacy bios still, which was deprecated in 8.

How would that work? The Hubitat has built in hardware for the various radios to talk to the devices. I use ESXi 6 at home for a few things myself, and I don't think I'd want to roll my Hubitat system into it. I kinda like having that system be all enclosed in a small dedicated box I can put centrally in the house to grab all automation jobs.

Same as Home Assistant does, you just passthrough the radios to the vm. It would simplify backups, allow you to adjust the amount of hardware available such as more memory, CPU, or storage. Not reliant on hardware that can fail over time.
