The only reason I have automation in my house is to prevent water leaks. I have Hubitat C 7 and about 10 Zlink water sensors and a few more from other brands.
Yesterday one of the sensors got wet and triggered the alarm. I got a notification on my phone since I integrated it with Home Kit. However the valve did not close. I tried to close it from the dashboard and it did work this time. See the screenshot of the valve events. This is actually scarry. I trusted the system to do the work and it failed. When I tested it last time about 6 months ago it worked as expected.
I also noticed a strange thing with ZWave topology. The hub is directly over the garage where the valve is. However it connects a very strange way, Hubitat->kitchen ( which is very far away in the opposite corner of the house on a different floor. The another ZLink which is 6 feet from the hub, then two more hops to other ZWave devices and finally to the valve. I tried to repair it several times however the topology does not change.
I can't really help, but I have a Zen34 wireless switch on a wall next to the door. I turn off the water valve, as well as the well pump, every time we leave the house. I know the water is off when I leave, and I think exercising it is a good thing.
Maybe you could exclude and include the valve? Use a virtual device as a placeholder and do the replace thing.
I am not sure turning the water off often is a good thing. You have everyday pressure fluctuation in your pipes from zero to about 50 PSI, which causes shrinking/expansion of the system and causing premature wear. But I cold be exaggerating.
Could be a sticky valve. Many or the turn handle style valves are not very good. Recommend you one if the more expensive zwave.plus water cop or.similar.
The one I have is from Bulldog Valve Robot probably the most expensive and highly rated valve. I think the overall wave network is the problem not the water valve itself.
