V1 keyfob IRIS - Key903 not compatible with C8 hub

I upgraded to the C8 hub because I have a large number of devices and wanted a more stable experience. However, I’ve encountered an issue: I’m unable to add additional v1 keyfobs. Interestingly, during the migration from my old hub, I was able to bring over and continue using the v1 keyfobs I had previously paired.

I currently have five more v1 keyfobs that I’d like to pair with the C8 hub but haven’t been successful. Can anyone assist or explain why this isn’t working?

Additionally, if pairing these keyfobs is not possible, I’d appreciate any recommendations for alternative presence devices. I’ve noticed that my phone, a Galaxy S23 Ultra, performs poorly for presence detection with the hub.

Thank you for your assistance!

Iris v1 devices are incompatible with Zigbee 3.0 controllers, like the one in the C-8 or C-8 Pro.

If you have your old (C5? C7?) you can keep this iris paired to it, and mesh the hubs together to bring these into your C8.

That is exactly what I do with my Iris V1.

As far as the other part of your question, I don't have a recommendation for presence devices, like a fob. I am not sure there are many of these type devices around any longer.

One thing that does help is to use the community Wifi presence app, (it is labeled as iPhone presence app, but works with all phones) and use that same authors combined presence, which brings together Wifi and GPS based (and fobs or whatever else) to determine if you are really home. It can even combine household members with this app, so you can have if all present or if all absent types of rules very easily.

The other-other thing to do, if you use the Wifi presence app is to be sure that you do not have randomized MAC turned on, which it was by default in Android a while back. That Wifi presence app I mention relies on having the same MAC address join the Wifi to determine if you are home, and randomizing it, or using multiple Wifi networks defeats the way it works.

I had the same issue when switching to the C8. Any V1 device that made it through the migration continued to work, but some did not and I had to keep a C7 going for awhile until I could replace the few V1 devices in my house. I still use almost all V1 devices in my shop, but I have a C7 there.

If you don't mind running a second hub, as mentioned by others, just pair them to your previous hub and use hub mesh.

Be aware that getting them paired even to a older hub can be problematic with the latest firmware, see this thread.
