Using two hubs?

I just purchased a new C8 hub. I now have a C7 up and running. Can I have the two hubs running at the same time? Can I migrate devices and app to the C8 and still have them on the existing C7?

Both hubs can run at the same time, but the devices can only be connected to one hub at a time. You can use Hub Mesh to share devices from one hub to the other.

You don't want, and in fact you can't have devices natively paired on both hubs. You can share between hubs as thebearmay outlines above.

It is sometimes advantageous to have two hubs.

The C5/C7 sometimes work better with certain devices, and/or you can put troublesome devices (Aqara, for example) on the second hub to reduce or eliminate mesh issues. Noisy and busy devices might also be better suited to their own hub in some cases.

You also can put processor intensive apps like cloud/LAN based integrations on the second hubs.

Thanks for the explanation. Is there a way to migrate only some devices to the C8?
Or do I have to exclude the devices before migration.
I'm thinking putting my zigbee, yolink and WiFi devices on the C8. These devices are sometimes slow to execute. Keeping all my zwave on the C7. Is this possible, or sound decision?

You do have to be sure that the Zigbee radios on the two hubs are set to different Zigbee channels, and both Zigbee channel settings aren't near your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channels.

You'll want to do a full reset your C7 (clears all settings, app configs/devices, and Z-Wave and Zigbee radios) after you fully migrate to your C8 and are happy w/how it is running.

A small percentage of users have had some issues w/some Zigbee devices on the C8. For me being able to move some Zigbee devices back to my C7 has been very useful for my overall reliability.

Read this carefully before you start.

You could do a full Migration and then remove devices from your C8 that you want to keep on your C7...but, all your automations that are migrated to the C8 would expect the devices in them to be on the C8.

Thanks again. I think I'll try running everything on the new C8 first. If everything works without a hitch it'll save me a ton of work.
Thanks again for your help :slightly_smiling_face:

Out of interest, do you or anyone know if Aqara are still "troublesome" on the C8? Or does it mainly depend on what repeaters they're having to use?

I've been running 2 hubs for quite a while. The reason is that my Iris V1 devices did not like to play well with other Zigbee devices. By offloading them to the second hub, my Hubitat setup has been operating without any major issues for years. Hub mesh was a great improvement over Hub Link/Link to Hub. Anyway, you need to choose what works for you.

Are you running a C7 & C8?

No, a C5 and C7

I would say yes and no.

The issue is that the older Aqara aren't quite standard, so they won't work perfect with any version of hub. Mine were OK on the C5, C7, and even the C8 up to a point. They occasionally drop off and have to be paired again, but that is a somewhat minor inconvenience in my situation. It is sad though because they are small and very responsive sensors.

I don't think others have had the OK experience with Aqara, they just don't like some devices or meshes. I also found this to be true, I have added some devices to my C8 Zigbee mesh, and now the Aqara are more trouble prone and drop off more often. I fixed it by putting them back on the C5, which houses my troublesome sensors, and any Iris V1 that I still use. (you can't pair any Iris V1 with a C8)

I don't know about the newer gen Aqara stuff, it might be better? Mine are all the older version.
