Using my hub once it’s set up

I have read various “how to” threads and am just not understanding how to use this hub. I bought it, installed it, hooked one door lock to it.

1.how do I see the list of codes I entered into that lock?
2. How do I access that lock and the hub when I am not standing right in front of them hooked to the same Internet connection? I need them to work from my office (they are set up at a different address).

Quickest way to access the lock remotely is to setup a dashboard and add the lock to it. Dashboards have a local and cloud mode. As to seeing the codes, if you haven’t enabled encryption on the lock the lock codes can be seen by going to the device tab and bringing up the lock. If you want to see what codes were used to unlock the door, normally those show up under the device’s event tab.

How do I go about setting up a dashboard? I feel like I need to go get a computer science degree to figure this thing out…my business degree isn’t cutting it.

Welcome to the Hubitat community!

Admittedly, the learning curve is a bit steep.

Are you managing your lock codes through the built-in Lock Code Manager app?

As for the “how to” stuff, the Documentation link is at the top of each forum page, and there are also YouTube videos.

Here is the link to the Dashboard section.

You can get to this help section by selecting Dashboards from the main Hubitat interface, then clicking the ? icon in upper right corner.

Come to this forum and ask questions. We were all in your position when we started.

I kind of felt like you do when I started. Welcome to Hubitat. You will love this thing.

Here are some tips to get you going:

  1. Sounds like you got the lock paired with the Hubitat. Please confirm

  2. In the main Hubitat page, on the left side, is a menu. Select Apps, then look for Lock Code Manager. That is where you manage the lock codes.

  3. To manage the lock you can either go into devices, then lock & unlock the lock, but that is a pain. The MUCH better way is to set up a dashboard. Select Apps, then Hubitat Dashboard, then make a new dashboard, then select the devices you want to control from the Dashboard.

  4. If you want to lock & unlock the lock remotely, install the Hubitat app on your phone. Any dashboard you create in item 3 above will also show up on your phone, so that is the most efficient way to control things remotely by button push.

  5. Once you get the above set up, you might want to think about how you may wish to automate your lock or the processes associated with it. For example, some people have keying in their lock code also disarm the alarm, and turn a light on inside if it is after sunset/before sunrise.

@shelly One thing I will recommend. When setting things up, doing rules etc, use a PC not your phone.

Here is something to get you started on doing a lock
