Use hubs wifi as present

Hi Community,
What does this new feature mean “use hubs wifi as present” ?

If the phone is on the same WiFi network as the hub, then consider the mobile presence sensor for that phone to be present.

Can u detail how this works please?
Do I need wifi enabled on my hub (currently Ethernet) does the hub look for active iPhone Mac or attempt to resolve phone dns name and ping it?
Or perhaps if it share the same subnet = on lan/wifi?

Sorry yes that’s a more accurate way to describe what it does, as far as I know.

Do I need wifi enabled on my hub for this to work? (I use Ethernet)
If it also works with Ethernet perhaps the description needs updating

I suspect that it should work without the hub’s wifi being enabled.

However, I just tested moving my geofence so that I would be outside while still on the same wifi as the hub and it didn’t see me as inside the geofence.

That said, I had just rebooted the hub, so maybe the miss was related to that…?

Anyone know what Hubitat release this was put in? I haven't dug into it yet but I'm curious if it's communicating with Hub over the network, if it's checking WAN IP, or what - my hub is on a different VLAN than my phone so I want to see what I need to allow through.

Fingers crossed this fixes the issues with native presence sensing on the app.

Not sure details on how it works but I have disabled it as it seemed to make gps location less reliable when arriving home
