I have an old Xbox One (roughly circa 2014) that has just been sitting
in my office closet. Does any one have any suggestions for possible uses ?
You could hook it up and play Halo Infinite, Overwatch2, etc….
I actually have a “Day One” edition Xbox One, with the Kinect, back in its original box. Thus, I know how you feel!
These days I play on a Xbox Series X. The NVME SSD actually makes a huge difference in load times.
Well, to be honest, I am thinking about hooking it up again. I'm just afraid with Microsoft going to more of a subscription model I'm not going to find I use it as much as I used to. When I had a windows phone I was heavily into the rewards program, and hence never had to actually pay for my XBOX Gold membership. Now adays I'm not nearly as invested in Microsoft as I once was. As a result , I don't use Bing enough to cover the cost of the subscription any more.
The one cool thing about Game Pass Ultimate (GPU), is that you can basically convert a Gold account to GPU for almost nothing. This then grants access to a bunch of games. There are various threads on SlickDeals.net describing the process. I have done it twice now. The basic process is buy up to 36 months of Xbox Live Gold on your account. Once that is active, buy 1 month of GPU. All 36 months will convert to GPU at a 1:1 ratio. The trick is, when your GPU subscription is nearing its end, one must let it completely expire. The. You can repeat the above process again. Otherwise, if you add 12 months of Gold to your GPU subscription, those 12 months will convert to only ~4 months of GPU. GPU also grants access to EA’s subscription service at no extra charge.
Oh, one other thing is that Game Pass Ultimate also works on your Windows gaming PC.
