UPS that will shut down hub

Right but how many of us already have a computer with a UPS attached already. A NAS is a great example of a tool that can easily fill the need of what i was suggesting.

I too have a computer with a UPS attached. However my Hubitat Hub is not near the computer. In addition, I don't think my old APS UPS PC monitor program will run on Windows 11. And I don't leave my PC on all night, it goes to bed when I do.

I think each case may require a different solution, depending on the situation.

Thanks for the suggestion. The TalentCell arrived today and I have everything setup. I know it's not fail-proof but I leave next week for 3 months and hopefully my house and I will remain on speaking terms this time.

It seems to me the problem isn't shutting down the hub, it's turning it back on. For example, if using a UPS and the hub is shut down due to a power failure, and then power is restored before the UPS itself shuts down, there's no way to turn the hub back on. My NAS has a function that will power it on automatically at a certain time. Wondering if there's any way Hubitat can implement this. Is it better to have the hub just turn off when the power fails and then turn back on when it's restored?

The problems occur during shutdown if the power runs out before the shutdown is complete. When that happens, the database can be left in a corrupted state.
The effects are not seen until the hub starts up.
Should power be restored before the shutdown is complete, then the shutdown runs to completion, and the hub can be rebooted. It should be fine.

Plug the hub into some kind of Wifi plug that you can control thru the plug's native cloud app outside of Hubitat. If your hub or the Wifi plug never lost power, simply turn plug off for a few seconds then back on and your hub should boot up unless I am missing something.

I used to have an old hub take care this for the new one.
I've since disabled it.
Hubitat was getting more reliable, it added complexity, and I don't go anywhere.
