Upgraded to C8, no ability to control ZWave devices

I have about 20 lamps and switches using ZWave. Worked pretty well with C7.
Just upgraded to C8. Used backup/restore and all devices are visible but no responsive.
Checking ZWave mesh table and logs shows no devices listed at all.
I don't want to exclude/include all of these devices again. Is there something else I missed?

Important: Make sure that your C7 is shut down and has no power connected to it.

Then:

  1. Shutdown your hub.
  2. Pull power at the wall.
  3. Wait 30s to a minute.
  4. Plug in again and let it boot up.

Things should be fine then.

Done. No improvement. My list of "ZWave radio devices" is blank - in ZWave details page under Settings.

Did you do a cloud migration? Or restore a local backup from the C-7 to the C-8?

Migrating zwave and zigbee devices requires a cloud migration.

Ok. I did local not cloud.
Just tried restoring from cloud backup. Same result. Can I factory reset the C8 and restore to that? I cannot find a way to factory reset. Or would that help?

Please follow the migration directions in the online documentation, which I’ve linked to below:

Both radios are automatically reset when attempting to restore a cloud backup (and user selects to restore either Z-Wave, Zigbee or both radios). If you want to do it manually, you can go to Z-Wave Details page and Zigbee Details page and reset the radio from those pages.

thank you for the link to the thorough documentation. I connected the C7 back to the network and clicked the 'create migration backup for C8' a few times, but it does not seem to create a cloud backup. When I reconnect the C8 - it does not see the cloud backup.
I'll keep working on it.

You need to click it and wait, it takes a while to do.

Just for the future. Local backups do not backup the radios. For that you need Hub Protect.

Also for a migration visual, here ya go

Still no luck. I reconnected my c7, performed a cloud backup with migration to c8, and shut down the device. When I start up the c8, I cannot see the migration backup. It only shows two local backups in the list.
Perhaps this is related to the way I did this the first time. I do have hub protect, and after I tried migrating the first time, I disabled hub protect on the c7, and transferred it to the c8.
Could it be related to not performing the migration backup with hub protect?

No, the hub should show a migrate button on the settings>>backup and restore page

Can you show your entire backup and restore screen on the c8?

This is the screen on the C8 after clicking "reload backups now"
I confirmed when my C7 was connected last night that a Migration backup existed.
I don't recall the exact number, but there were probably at least 6 backups, and the top of the list was the "Migration to C8" backup when I viewed them on the C7 screen before shutting down.

Both hubs have to be registered to the same email and although it's right there in the middle, you did click that Reload Backups, right?

Fair question - yes I clicked the button to reload backups.
And yes - they are both registered to same email. I wondered the same, even went to my credentials page to ensure I'm logged in properly to both hubs!
That's why I though perhaps it had something to do with the Hub Protect status in my earlier question.
I'm at a loss. Do I need to go around and train all my zwave devices now (ugh - this was very difficult the first time around), Or should I try reverting 100% to the C7 by transferring the Hub Protect back, and going through the process again properly?
Thanks so much for the prompt replies as I work through this. It's very reassuring to have your feedback.

This can definitely be figured out. Don't abandon doing a migration yet.

You could do a full reset of the c8 (reset both radios then soft reset.) Shut down. Go to my.hubitat.com and deregister the hub. Bring c7 back up and do a migration backup. Shut down. Bring the c8 up and start from scratch (you don't need hub protect on either hub to do this)

Yes, you can re-migrate using that cloud backup. I think there's great comfort in resetting the radios and soft resetting the hub.. because then we just KNOW it's all "from scratch" but the truth is, on restoring the cloud backup, you are asked to restore ZWave and Zigbee individually.. whatever you select forces a radio reset on that radio first. Additionally, restoring any backup, cloud or local, does a soft reset first.

In other words, just doing a cloud restore, selecting both ZWave and Zigbee, does the same to the hub, just a few clicks faster.

I point this out, not to discourage the manual reset, but to comfort those that didn't do those steps.

It seems Hub Protect was the issue I had.
I followed the steps above - shutdown, transfer Hub Protect back to C7, then perform migration backup, shutdown, and connect C8.
The screen showed properly, and I am now in the middle of restoring backup according to the published instructions.
Will close the loop here after it comes up - I'm waiting a while to give it time to complete all the migration tasks.
