Update to 2.2.5 impossible

hi im new to hubitat

trying to update since day 1 of the update release but i cant even dowload it,,, it stay at0% and then say download failed what s wrong???

I don't know - hard to say. However, you could try this:

  1. Shutdown your hubitat from the menu
  2. Disconnect power (at the power supply end, not the Hubitat end - the microUSB connector is fragile!)
  3. Wait 30s. And power it back up again.
  4. Try updating.

And just in case that does diddly-squat, tagging @bobbyD and @gopher.ny

You may want to check your router to be sure it isn't blocking Hubitat in some way. Some routers have firewalls, flood control, and other security items that seem to block devices like Hubitat. At one point I had troubles with many of my devices because flood control was set improperly.

that would make sense but where in my router setting can i set that up????

@aaiyar thx for the info i tried but it didnt work...

I don't know, because I don't know what brand/model router you are using. But generally speaking, it will be in a "security" tab. My one router puts it into a DoS section in the Advanced Settings tab.

I see a number of wgets on still running on your hub, starting with attempted 2.2.5.119 update. Looks like it can't connect to amazon cloud. Let's try the easy thing first - restart your hub from diagnostics tool (http://your.hubs.ip.address:8081/).

@gopher.ny done but still cant download so what s the next step???

The hub is connected, so I'm going to try and push a version from my end... stand by.

Edit: ok, so it connects to some cloud services but not others, and DNS works. Can you whitelist hubbuilds.s3.amazonaws.com host on the router? Something is preventing the hub from fully reaching out.

I'm not a big security nut, but please be careful if you're using dmz.

im not a security nut either but just entered my hub ip in dmz so it could get acces to cloud server i guess... is there a reason why you say that??? should i remove it since my update is complete???

Yes. Because putting in the DMZ permits it to be accessed by basically anyone on the internet. The long-term solution is to figure out why your router is blocking access to "hubbuilds.s3.amazonaws.com".

In the future, I would try temporarily disabling your router’s firewall to see if that helps with allowing your hub to update its firmware. If that helps, then there must be a firewall rule that is blocking the update, and perhaps you’ll be able to figure out which FW rule/feature it is.

Again, be sure to reenable the router’s firewall afterwards. Running without the firewall may expose your home network to hacker attacks. As others have mentioned, I also advise removing your hub from the DMZ, as that exposes your hub to the internet directly, and it will be hacked.

@ogiewon thx for the advise if the firewall is blocking update can it impact some wifi device or something related ??? so far everything is working just wondering???

edit: @aaiyar do you have any idea what could block this??? since there is absolutely no rule on the firewall screen???

Typically, the firewall is going to impact WAN to LAN communications. So, as long as the WiFi devices are only communicating with other LAN devices, the firewall will not be a problem. This assumes that the WiFi devices aren’t connected to a ‘Guest’ WiFi network, which is often blocked from communicating with other LAN devices.

Are you using something like an Ad-blocker on your network?

nope

Well - that blows one theory out of the water.

Maybe an alternative DNS service is blocking you? Did you change from the default (ISP provided) DNS server? There are certain DNS services that block, often for privacy (advertisements) or to block adult content from kids.
