Unsupported Alexa/Echo Device workaround

So, I figured out a temporary solution/workaround for all incompatible Alexa devices that have other hub support. It’s a bit ridiculous so don’t laugh at me. This all started after months of being in contact with Velux and Netatmo and finding no support for controlling their skylights. Initially, I had hoped there would at least be an IFTTT to pass commands along but no such luck:

  1. Put an Echo dot next to a Google Home or Homekit device.

  2. Create a custom routine in Alexa to more or less copy your request and repeat it but append to the beginning, “Hey Google”, “okay Google”, or “hey Siri.”

  3. So an example would follow:
    a. Custom routine: “Alexa, close my blinds.”
    B. Echo Dot replies aloud, “Hey Google, close my blinds.”
    C. Google Home replies (I think), “okay whatever.”

Problem solved and I didn’t have to hack or code anything.
Even cheaper than a Raspberry Pi in some cases.

There’s probably some way to trigger asking Alexa to have Alexa say something on a specific device such as an Echo Dot in a closet next to a Google Home. I haven’t gotten to that point just yet.

Sure is. In the Alexa routine, don't use Alexa Says. Instead use Messaging / Send Announcement.
