Unable to remove zwave LR device

c8 Pro, the device is Zooz ZSE43 800LR tilt sensor.

First I will say, these are the worst Zooz devices I've ever used. All my other Zooz stuff is solid, but these report incorrectly about 1 out of 5 times. I still have the old EcoLink tilt sensors up, they are super reliable. Only reason to change them was my desire to move everything over to ZWLR.

Anyway, after a few days of both ZSE43 sensors performing poorly, I'm ready to remove them and just go back to my working Ecolinks. I pressed Delete on the device page, got a pop up that I failed to read before clicking through. Now the device is gone from the Hubitat device list but still lives on the Zwave page. I can click REFRESH or DISCOVER. No amount of refreshing will give me a DELETE button. I have tried about 30 times. I've also rebooted the hub. What to do, I want these off the zwave list.

I also deleted the entry in the smartstart app.

That is an important popup. It would have said to put your device in exclusion mode, then it likely would have done a proper exclusion, removing itself from both you hub's device list and the Z-Wave Details table. It would also warn you if any apps are using the device so you can remove it from them first, avoiding the possibility of breaking any of those apps. Finally, if the exclusion did not succeed after some time, the text would change and offer you a force remove instead. This removes it from your hub's devices list but not the Z-Wave radio (the Z-Wave Details table) and is generally preferable to avoid. You should still be able to clean things up manually as you are now, however.

As for why that isn't working, what you're trying should work. But battery devices might be more stubborn since it's normal for them to not check in. You can remove the battery for now to be extra sure that it doesn't, but coming back and trying again later may reveal the Remove button already there or that it works again if you try a Refresh and then Remove.

You could also start a general exclusion from this page and put the device in exclusion mode, assuming you haven't already reset it (or done a general exclusion with another controller). That should remove it too since the node information would still match.

Thank you. Before I could read your reply, I used discover to rejoin the device. Now that it's fully connected I will try to remove it again.

Yes never click the force remove button unless you want a ghost/dead node to be left behind.

Although you could have just run an exclude from the z-wave details page to remove the device from the radio afterwards.

Also, may want to try shutting down the hub and unplugging for 30 seconds if having any issues excluding.

Me too, only I took my Ecolinks down, lol.
They have been rock solid for years.

I just relocated the ZSE43 800LR's on my 3 garage doors to the very tippy-top of the door. The door rail curves there and makes a space there for the radio waves to get through, I hope.

Other beefs, aside from weak radio:

-Small battery compared to Ecolink: how will it last through the winter?
-Glue strip only mounting option; no screws; with the Ecolink you can put up a mounting bracket and remove the sensor to fiddle with it inside the house vs in situ.

edit:
-The Zooz trend to have similar a similar form factor for all their sensors, is interesting, and I feel they're cute, but could be limiting.
