Can someone please tell me what obvious thing I'm missing here?
I'm finding it impossible to remove devices from the Alexa Integration. I'll admit I miss the old, simpler method—just uncheck the device, click Done, and it disappeared. Maybe this is one of those "PEBKAC" moments and I'm overlooking something obvious.
I'm sure I'm missing something simple, so I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction before I spend another hour arguing with my computer... which, so far, seems to be winning.
I am probably wrong, I am going from memory. I always assumed you should move a device to "Ignore" to remove it or not interact with Alexa.
If you just shut it off in Hubitat, I don't think it sends or receives anything to Alexa, but you end up with a "ghost" device in Alexa.
Again, from memory, I don't think shutting off a device or removing in the Hubitat menus removes it from Alexa. I think you need to go in and remove it from Alexa too, it isn't an automatic process.
I just was in this area myself - to get the old simple structure back, uncheck the ‘advanced’ button at the bottom and click done then re-enter the app ! works for me! (I do think there is some interaction with the ‘ignored’ list that can force you to stay in the advanced mode….)
That didn’t work for me. I might have had an ignored device, but once I hit Done and came back in, it was gone. But the sorting by capabilities was still there. Tried a number of times (and, yes, hitting done) and going out and back in. Can’t get the old UI back.
My issue with this UI is there’s no explanation of what the slide switches mean or the concept of ignoring the device. And this is the only place I can think of where devices are sorted by an arbitrary device category. Some are missing. And devices can have multiples.
And while I’m groaning about inconsequential things, the text about Alexa Hunches being enabled by default is no longer true (thank goodness).
The documentation linked to above should explain all of this, but the options to change the UI are harmless to just try and see if anything you need is exposed when you enable more things -- the route I suspect most users actually take despite the aforementioned fact.
Ignoring is basically a way to remove the device from this list if you never (ish, as it's reversible) plan to add it or don't want to see it for some reason. It should not be necessary to remove an existing device from Alexa. If something magically re-checks itself, something else is going on, and the first thing I'd do is check Logs for any errors from the skill/integration app. If it just doesn't disappear on the Alexa side, that should happen too but can always be done manually.
The "new" UI mirrors the HomeKit Integration app and was the most straightforward way to get a list of devices that the integration actually supports while also enabling you to choose specific features you may want to expose differently or not at all (as opposed to a list of all devices on your hub with no per-device options as before). If you're looking for a specific device, there is a search/filter box at the top, or your browser's built-in search may also help.
Wow... the "afore mentioned" comment had me almost checking the URL to make sure I hadn't somehow logged into the Home Assistant forums by mistake. Just kidding of course.
After reading your reply and then going back to reread the Alex documentation from the link I posted earlier, it's a bit clearer now. What really threw me off, though, were the screenshots showing the old checkbox interface instead of what the UI looks like today.
I understand the workflow better now, but from a usability perspective, I still find the current GUI less intuitive than the other Hubitat integrations. Call me old-fashioned, I guess . It doesn't really follow the same layout as most of the other Hubitat apps—except, as I just learned, HomeKit Integration. Judging by some of the other comments above, I'm apparently not the only one who found it confusing.
But hey, what do I know? I thought Wink and Stringify were fantastic products... and we all know how that turned out.
