Unable to remove device on C7

I have a ghost device (it failed over a month ago) which I followed the steps outlined in a previous post to remove (press Discover, press Refresh, press Remove). But when I press Remove, the screen refreshes within ~10 seconds but the ghost device is still listed. Did I miss something?

Have you checked the logs by any chance? Might have additional clues as to why the radio fails to remove the device.

I just checked the Remove button again and then checked the log... no entry about the remove request.

Ok... I just saw this show up in my log:

sys:12022-12-12 12:52:51.913 PMinfoFailed node 1A remove status: 0 SDK failure node is no longer in failed node list

But it is still listed in the Z-Wave device list.

That means the radio failed to remove the device because it has been removed from the "failed nodes" table. I would wait a few more days before trying to remove the node again. There isn't much you (or us) can do about how the software works.

ok thanks for the advice... will try again later this week.

FWIW I had a stubborn ghost that I finally removed by first doing the 30 second power off, then trying the remove option one more time.

↑ is good advice. As an alternative, you can purchase an Aeotec or Zooz Z-wave stick and use PC Controller software to remove the ghost, like many have done here. There are how to guides posted. For me that was the only way to ghost-bust my setup, around 3 or 4 separate events

I'm curious, why can you remove the ghost device using a PC and a z-wave stick, and yet the Hubitat can't do it? I've got a stubborn ghost device myself...

Unfortunately this is a downside to HE. Something about the 700 series Z-wave chip firmware, although it works with my Zooz and UZB 700 series sticks perfectly.
Now sometimes HE can remove the ghost, but in my experience I've had to wait a couple days before trying again, for HE to successfully remove it.
Try shutting down hub, pull power from the wall, not from the micro USB, it's fragile. Then try to remove ghost and be certain that the ghost device is completely powered down(batteries out or plug disconnect or both) or it will not remove.

Keep in mind-Nothing is perfect. So logically weigh your options, HE, ST, HA, Vera, Wink, Ezlo, Homey, Homeseer, Tuya, Aqara, Z2M, ISY.
If you're like me, you'll wind up right back here.

I just received my Zooz stick today and removed the ghost device in minutes. Luckily, it wasn't difficult.

And I'm not trying to bash HE, I'm just genuinely interested why we can't remove the ghosts via HE? Is there some hardware limitation based on the chipset it uses, or is it just a limitation of the developers? I'm not very knowledgeable about the inner workings of z-wave, and it seems curious to me that something so simple should be so difficult.

It’s a limitation of the 700-series SDK from SiLabs. When you use a zwave stick with PC Controller (even a 700-series) stick, the same SDK is not used.

Just an FYI, but if you assign a Room Name to all your devices, any time you get a ghost the Room Name will be blank. Make it easy to identify which are ghosts.

Ok I finally found time to work on this issue again. I successfully removed 1 of my 4 inactive devices from my C7. But I can not remove 3 of my Zooz devices following the steps recommended or my method over at least a week. I'm now to the point of needing Hubitat Support. Anyone know how I can contact them?

I don't know what your method is, but your only option at this point of time to remove the 3 stubborn ghosts will be to use a z-wave USB stick and PC Controller. @Rxich posted the relevant links earlier in this thread.
