Glad you're up and going - but I'd hate having a bad port - in my old hacker world we'd call that an Easter Egg (something to stumble over again in the future).
As I was reading the thread, I recall my router has the ability to disable/enable various hard ware ports. You might want to check that in case the 'bad' port is simply disabled.
I also suggest grabbing a 5 port hub and dangling that in between so you have more ports for the future! One can never have too many ports!
