UGREEN NAS’s

It’s been about a year since the Ugreen line of NAS came out. Is anyone using them? If so what are your thoughts? Can’t really justify to cost for Synologu or QNAP. Thanks!

What are your needs. Unifi just added more devices to their NAS lineup and there is also the Lincstation N1.

I have a DXP4800 plus on the way and will be setting it up with 2x 14Tb HDDs. Still not sure if I will be going with the UGOS or just install Unraid (I have a 12 Tb HDD that I could add to it) or just stay all same HDDs and go with TrueNAS. Thinking I might experiment with it before deciding the best route for me.

But hardware wise, it looks to be a real nice machine and it's the reason I'm going with, if the OS is not to my liking, I'll just change it to something better. I have a friend that has this same machine and is running Windows 10 VM on it as a secondary computer when he is just not bothered to pull out his laptop.

i looked at them briefly but still prefer qnap.. easier to setup many apps out of the box like iperf and speedtest and taillink and backup s/w etc.

Right Now, i am primarily looking to move away from OneDrive and to a large extent iCloud and keep all that locally,

I did see where Ubiquiti has a new NAS, I just assumed it was priced out of my current budget. I probably should look at it. I might be surprised.

They have the option to choose a different os? Interesting...

I have a mini PC currently running HAOS that I am planning to reformat with proxmox and run HA in a container so I can more fully utilize the device. HA is not a huge component of my system so there is a decent amount of resources being under utilized. I primarily see this running Twingate, and some other utility and security application. I still havent fully figured out what all I plan to do with it. but my plan for a NAS would be primarily storage locally rather than being dependant to OneDrive, iCloud etc. I am certainly open to ideas and suggestions!

Something to keep in mind, the cloud services not only offer storage but also remote online backup sync at the same time. So if you want to account for that you will also need a backup system for your NAS. There are online backup services that could accommodate but not sure what the best ones are at the moment.

Yes, yes you should.

Ubiquiti's NAS is worth a look as long as you don't want to run apps on it. It is strictly file storage. They came out with the 7 bay NAS Pro a year or so ago for $499. Recently they announced new UNAS 2, UNAS 4, UNAS Pro 4, and UNAS Pro 8. They range in price from $199 - $799 sans storage. Except for the 4 bay models they are all available now.

I don't have an Ubiquiti NAS, but I do have the UNVR which has some similar hardware. It is well built and hasn't been an issue.

For a NAS I ended up with the Austor Lockerstor AS6806 which is an in-between option. It will run Docker apps but does not have GPU so it doesn't do great on transcoding. It does have some impressive stats otherwise. Six drive bays, four NVME slots, two 10Gbp, two 2.5Gbps ethernet ports, and two Thunderbolt 4/USB C ports. It comes in 2 - 10 bay models.

I may eventually end up with a UNAS for secondary backup (3-2-1 rule). Typically my Ubiquiti gear only gets a restart after an update. Otherwise the uptime is measured in months or years.
