I'm considering upgrading to a bigger smart TV (depending on Black Friday deals). I'm currently using the community Roku driver with my Roku Stick and ancient TV. That driver kicks butt and I use it for all sorts of automations, but from what I hear, the Roku OS TVs themselves aren't all that great.
If your TV is integrated with HE I'd be interested in knowing
What you like & don't like about your model(s) in regards to performance and home automation
I have a fair degree of automation with my Roku TVs. Here are the highlights:
When TV turns on:
a) The state of multiple lights is captured. Most of them are turned off. Two lamps are set to 2250K, 10% brightness.
b) Bias-lighting turns on at the back of the TV @ 6000K, 100% brightness.
c) If I hit "Pause" on the remote, the lamps brighten to 3000K, 50% brightness.
d) Hitting "Play" on the remote causes the lamps to go back to 2250K, 10%.
e) The open contact sensor "chime" is turned down in volume.
f) And changes to the lamps CT or brightness is reverted back to 2250K, 5%, unless the TV is n pause mode.
When the TV turns off:
a) The captured lighting goes back to its original state (unless the mode is now "Sleep", in which case they stay off).
b) Bias lighting turns off.
c) The chime colume is restored.
Like anything, you get what you pay for. I don't use Roku at all anymore. I really dislike my TCL Roku TV in the bedroom. The commands are soooo slow it takes 10 minutes from the time it's turned on, to the time we can actually watch anything using the Roku menu system. Click... wait... click... wait... click... wait. I've since added a Google Chromecast to watch anything on this TV.
I have a LG 75'' Class 4K UHD Smart LED HDR TV in the Living room. I have it integrated with Hubitat so I can turn it on/off and send on screen messages. ie. When the dryer is finished, it displays across the bottom of the screen 'Dryer is finished'. But even on this TV, I don't use the 'smart' features. It's much easier to just talk to the Xfinity remote to change to Apple TV+, Hulu, Disney+, etc. Anything that needs more, I just switch over to the Google Chromecast on this TV too.
'Hey Google, turn the television (on/off)'
Hubitat automatically turns on/off the stereo, tv and the Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip. Then sets the lighting based on the time of day.
I'm going a little off-topic but I think this is the best thing to do for a great picture. I use white 6000k at 30% brightness on day-to-day TV and have Hyperion running LEDs on my home theater screen.
I have a TCL Roku TV and love it. @bptworld Turn off power save (it's not saving that much power) then it's instant on. Using the Roku device driver and it works great.
