I do similar but simpler. I use Android Auto while driving but it won't let you open any other apps outside of the ones in its "world". I got around that by creating a tiny overlay scene (the Tasker logo indicated by red arrow).
If I press that, it opens another scene that gives me a button to open Hubitat mobile app (MOST IMPORTANT!!!), text messaging program, or open/close garage door. Android Auto wouldn't allow me to get to any of that functionality natively. It won't even allow me to open the MyQ app to open garage door that way.
Not fancy but gets the job done and makes it easier to use Android Auto. For those of you on Android, Car Home Ultra is another great Car Dock app that allows you to use Tasker Shortcuts natively. However, I didn't like the way it handled the music apps like IHeartRadio, Pandora, etc.
